The Edmonton Oilers have a few kinks to iron out before the launch of the regular season. In a perfect world, Connor McDavid will ink a contract extension so that Leon Draisaitl and the rest of Oil Country can rest easy. Fresh off trading for Connor Ingram to shore up their goaltending, GM Stan Bowman could shore up the forward group, too.
Recently, the team has been connected to Chicago Blackhawks young forward, Lukas Reichel. That’s why Heavy.com has proposed a trade that would see the Oilers acquire a familiar face in Dylan Holloway.
Oilers Acquire:
- Dylan Holloway
Blues Acquire:
- Matt Savoie
- Troy Stecher
- 2026 3rd-round pick
This proposal gives the Oilers a legitimate option in their top-six who is familiar with the majority of the the team—the St. Louis Blues acquire a young prospect with a two-way game who can contribute immediately.
This deal sees the Oilers acquire Holloway, who was drafted 14th overall in 2020. The 6-foot-1, 207 lb forward had a career year with the Blues – putting together a 26-goal, 63-point campaign in 77 games. The 24-year-old averaged a career high 16:49 per game.
In return, the Blues primary acquisition would be Matt Savoie, 21. The 5-foot-10, 179 lb forward was originially drafted ninth overall by the Buffalo Sabres in 2022. Savoie spent the majority of his time in 2024-25 in the AHL, where he collected 54 points in 66 games.
The Blues would also receive defenseman, Troy Stecher, 31. The 5-foot-10, 184 lb right-handed defender is an undrafted player who spent time with the Vancouver Canucks, Detroit Red Wings, Los Angeles Kings, Arizona Coyotes, and Calgary Flames before lacing it up with the Oilers. Last year, he recorded seven points while averaging 13:52 in 66 games.
Oilers Linked to Many Young Forwards
Word on the street is that the Oilers want to get younger. They are linked to three young forwards since the Stanley Cup Final concluded.
Fabien Lysell, Yegor Chinakhov, and now Lukas Reichel have all been connected to the Oilers.
Fabian Lysell
Back in the middle of August, a Boston Bruins-centric YouTube channel, Bruins Diehards, published a report about Lysell.
“Dominic Tiano suggested in my Discord that the Boston Bruins and the Oilers have been having conversations and that Fabian Lysell’s name has popped up more than once,” Court Lalonde of Bruins Diehards said on August 18th.
Yegor Chinakhov
Tem Lassila on X, published a report in late September, that linked the Oilers to the young Columbus Blue Jackets forward.
“BREAKING: per multiple sources, Yegor Chinakhov, 24 year old #CBJ Russian right wing and on a expiring $2.1m deal, has finalized trade demands,” Lassila wrote in a social media post. “And #BlackHawks & #LetsGoOilers are in talking stages.”
Lukas Reichel
Finally, in the last few days, a few journalists and pundits have connected the Oilers to Reichel. David Pagnotta of The Fourth Period was the first to report of the Oilers interest.
“The Vancouver Canucks, Edmonton Oilers and San Jose Sharks are among the teams believed to have interest in Reichel,” wrote Pagnotta on October 1.
Dylan Holloway is Fresh Off a Breakout Season

Holloway would be an excellent addition to the Oilers. Fresh off a breakout season, had he played for the Oilers, he would have been one of the top point producers.
Holloway’s 26 goals would have tied him for third on the Oilers with McDavid. He also would have been fourth in assists (37), and fourth in points.
Holloway only makes $2.29 million for the rest of this season.
