Ole Miss QB Trinidad Chambliss Gets Major NFL Draft Update After Sugar Bowl

Ole Miss quarterback Trinidad Chambliss had a breakout game in the Sugar Bowl, turning in a monster game against Georgia and getting a big boost in his NFL Draft stock.

Chambliss set a Sugar Bowl record for consecutive completions against Georgia as Ole Miss looked to continue an unlikely run. With a trip to the College Football Playoff semifinal on the line, Chambliss gave a big boost to his own draft standing while leading his team to an upset win.

Chambliss completed 30-of-44 passes for 320 yards and two touchdowns, leading Ole Miss on a game-winning field goal drive in the 39-34 victory. He made several highlight-reel throws in the win, attracting some big attention regarding his draft status.

Trinidad Chambliss Facing Big NFL Draft Decision

Chambliss had an uncertain college football future leading into the Sugar Bowl on Thursday. He filed for an NCAA waiver earlier this season, seeking an extra year of eligibility and asking that he be granted a retroactive redshirt after playing only two games in the 2022 season.

Chambliss transferred from Division II Ferris State and is seeking to be awarded a redshirt year based on Division I rules, CBS Sports reported.

Chambliss said at the time that he hoped for another season at Ole Miss.

“That would be great for me to get another year,” Chambliss said. “Another year in the offense, having the spring and just developing more on this level. That would definitely be huge.”

Chambliss was seen as one of the top prospects if he were to enter the NFL Draft, with ESPN’s Mel Kiper Jr. ranking him as the No. 6 quarterback in this year’s class.

That could be changing after his performance in the Sugar Bowl.

Trinidad Chambliss Rising Up NFL Draft Boards

With his big performance in the Sugar Bowl, Chambliss could be climbing the NFL Draft board. Reporter Trevor Sikkema, lead NFL Draft analyst for Pro Football Focus, posted that Chambliss could be the third-best prospect in this year’s class.

“Soft launching Trinidad Chambliss QB3 in this draft class,” Sikkema shared in a post on X.

That represents a major jump for Chambliss, as Sikkema didn’t have him on the board in the first round of a PFF mock draft published in December.

Some suggested that Chambliss may have already been higher on the board than most fans realized, with the Sugar Bowl just a chance for many to see him for the first time. Destin Adams, analyst for AtoZ Sports, wrote that he expected Chambliss to rise higher as the draft neared.

“Ole Miss QB Trinidad Chambliss is someone I expect to rise a ton during the draft cycle NFL teams are higher on him than most realize,” Adams wrote in a post on X.

Damian Parson of Bleacher Report compared Chambliss to Arizona Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray, noting that he has some strong traits despite a smaller stature for the position.

“Chambliss possesses good arm strength, equipped with velocity and zip for short and intermediate throws. He displays the ability to power passes past underneath defenders,” Parson wrote.
