Olympics legend and Manchester United fan Usain Bolt admits he was relieved Old Trafford rivals Manchester City beat Arsenal and Liverpool to the Premier League title.

Man City faced competition from Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal and Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool last season before clinching a record fourth successive Premier League title.

Despite supporting United, Bolt was glad local rivals Manchester City lifted yet another Premier League trophy as he ‘couldn’t deal’ with Arsenal winning the title.

The former sprinter has also suggested his beloved Manchester United had a better season than Arsenal despite finishing six places and 29 points behind the Gunners.

While United endured their lowest-ever Premier League finish under Ten Hag, they ended a dismal season on a high after winning the FA Cup. Arsenal, despite challenging for the title, failed to secure any silverware.

Asked who had a more successful season out of Arsenal and Manchester United, Bolt told talkSPORT: ‘It’s like I’m running on a circuit and doing well and then I get to the Championship and win no medals.’

When it was pointed out to Bolt that United finished eighth in the Premier League, the Jamaican added: ‘Yeah, but we’re in Europe.

‘Everybody always asks me who I’d rather win the Premier League out of Arsenal and Man City – I’m like, “Man City, easy.”

‘People are like, “But they’re your rival”. I know a lot of Arsenal fans and when they’re top of the table they talk so much and I’m like, “You haven’t won yet!”

‘Imagine if they actually won? Oh my God, it would be over. I’d rather Man City win than Arsenal because I couldn’t deal with it.

‘Liverpool? No, because they’d be tied on titles with us and we can’t have that and because Arsenal talk so much, I’d rather deal with Man City.

‘They’re all young fans and I don’t know many young people so I’m fine with that!’

Bolt is lacing up his football boots once again to take part in UNICEF’s charity match between a Soccer Aid World XI and England at Stamford Bridge on Sunday night.

Popstar Robbie Williams, Love Island’s Tommy Fury, ex-England cricketer Stuart Broad and former England footballer Theo Walcott are also set to feature in a bid to help children worldwide ‘grow up happy, healthy and able to play’.
