Itâs more than obvious that the New York Jets have struggled to find success in the passing game this season. Their passing attack has been so limited that it is trending toward one of the lowest averages in yards per game since 2012.
“The Jets are currently averaging 146.5 passing yards per game, which would be the second-worst average in the NFL since 2012,” wrote Zack Rosenblatt of The Athletic.
Yes, the 2025 Jets offense was designed to be run-first, and they have excelled in that area, averaging 128.4 rushing yards per game, which ranks seventh among all NFL teams, according to ESPN. However, there is a clear imbalance in production, as the Jetsâ passing offense ranks last in the league in yards per game.
At 3-10, the Jets sit near the bottom of the league, and with the passing game struggling, theyâll likely look to make moves this offseason to address one of their biggest weaknesses.

Time For a QB Change
New York started the season with quarterback Justin Fields under center, but he has since been benched. In nine games, Fields went 2-7 and threw for 1,259 yards, which ranks 31st in the NFL for passing yards, according to ESPN.
Tyrod Taylor, who the Jets have started in in favor of Fields has shown more of an ability to get the passing attack rolling, but there are injury concerns for the 15 year veteran.
ESPN’s Field Yates recently came out with a mock draft that had the Jets selecting quarterback Fernando Mendoza (Indiana University).
“Mendoza has had a remarkable season at Indiana, showing off excellent accuracy and a powerful right arm to pair with much improved pocket awareness and sack avoidance after two seasons at Cal,” wrote Yates. “The Jets are currently 27th in QBR (40.5), needing a long-term answer for coach Aaron Glenn and general manager Darren Mougey to cement themselves within the organization.”
Mendoza is just one quarterback the Jets could target this offseason, but regardless of who they pursue, it seems clear there will be a new quarterback in town given the teamâs struggles in the passing game.

An Improved Receiver Group Next Season
Standout wide receiver Garrett Wilson has missed roughly half the season due to injury, but with their top playmaker expected to be fully healthy next year, the passing game should get a significant boost.
The Jets still have not gotten a look at what the passing game can be with Wilson paired with Adonai Mitchell and John Metchie, who were both added this season. Wilson has not been healthy enough to play since they joined the lineup.
Before the injury, Wilson was working with receivers such as Tyler Johnson and Josh Reynolds, who have been far less productive than Mitchell and Metchie.
With an improved receiving group, defenses will not be able to focus solely on Wilson, which should help increase production in the passing game. On top of that, the Jets will likely bring in a new quarterback this offseason considering how lackluster the passing game has been for the green and white.
