After making a blockbuster trade, the Green Bay Packers remain uncertain if they’ll have their newest player ready for Week 1. Prioritizing his long-term health is going to be a priority knowing he just signed a $186 million deal.
The Dallas Cowboys shocked the world when they decided to part ways with their 26-year-old superstar. The 2021 No. 12 overall pick played just 13 games last year as it’s clear he still carries an injury designation into Week 1.
Adam Schefter Breaks Down Micah Parsons Injury Status
The NFL insider took to social media on Monday, September 1 to update the Packers faithful on the status of their newest trade acquisition. There’s no denying that Micah Parsons is a difference maker when he’s out on the field. In his first three seasons, he missed just one game. Last year, he missed four.
Parsons doesn’t carry a traditional injury designation into the Packers home opener against the Detroit Lions. Instead, the team is acting as if he’s a full-go for the Divisional showdown. Schefter knows that may not be the case as he goes into the severity of the injury.
Packers LB Micah Parsons has been dealing with an L4/L5 facet joint sprain in his back and he may take an epidural injection prior to Sunday’s game vs. the Lions if needed to help him play, per sources.

“Packers LB Micah Parsons has been dealing with an L4/L5 facet joint sprain in his back and he may take an epidural injection prior to Sunday’s game vs. the Lions if needed to help him play, per sources,” Schefter wrote.
He continued, “Before trading Parsons last week, the Cowboys prescribed him a five-day plan of an anti-Inflammatory corticosteroid, a prednisone to help him recover from back tightness. They also had him on a physical therapy program.”
Schefter notes, “Parsons has been practicing this week and he is trying to play in Sunday’s opener vs. the Lions, though one source said it still is uncertain if he will.”
Green Bay’s Defense May Look Different in Week 1
Star players such as Nate Hobbs and Xavier McKinney were both held out of the majority of training camp. The free safety and cornerback both signed massive free agent deals with McKinney immediately making his name known last season. Hobbs has dealt with plenty of injuries in the past which is noteworthy.
Both players are trending towards playing in Week 1. If Green Bay were to be without Parsons, McKinney, and Hobbs, the Lions would have the clear advantage. If the Packers even have two of the three available, their defense will be near 100%.
If anything, Green Bay may decide to ease Parsons into action. Even if he doesn’t play as much as he traditionally does, any burst of his speed and strength will immediately play an impact. Parsons has drawn plenty of comparisons to Reggie White, a true Packers legend.
Green Bay wasted no time making it clear how much Parsons means to the organization. Whether it was trading Kenny Clark, sending two first-round picks, or making him the highest paid non-QB in the league, Parsons also is the first Packer to wear No. 1 in nearly 100 years.
The Packers are going all in on a Super Bowl this year, and that runs through Micah Parsons. Schefter provided a much needed injury update on the four-time Pro Bowler, one that sheds light on how much pain he’s been working through.
