The Green Bay Packers have now lost the only cornerback they selected in the 2025 NFL draft to an instance of practice-squad stealing ahead of Week 9.
According to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero, the Tennessee Titans are signing rookie cornerback Micah Robinson — a 2025 seventh-round pick — off the Packers’ practice squad and to their 53-man roster after trading away Roger McCreary on Monday.
“The #Titans are signing CB Micah Robinson off the Packers practice squad, per source,” Pelissero wrote Monday afternoon on X. “Robinson fills the roster spot vacated by Roger McCreary, who was traded to the [Los Angeles] Rams [on Monday].”
The Packers selected Robinson with the No. 237 overall pick in this past spring’s draft, making him one of their only two cornerback additions of the 2025 offseason alongside veteran free-agent signing Nate Hobbs. While Robinson made the roster coming out of training camp, though, the Packers shuffled him to the practice squad before Week 1.
Even still, the Packers elevated Robinson to their game-day roster in each of their first two games of the regular season; however, he did not record any snaps in the two wins.
Robinson will now have an opportunity to reinforce the Titans’ cornerback room and potentially earn playing time after the departure of McCreary. He may even slot in as their top backup perimeter corner behind Marcus Harris and Jalyn Armour-Davis.
Will Packers Regret Losing Micah Robinson to Titans?
The Packers had not turned back to Robinson since his Week 2 elevation against the Washington Commanders, but it is fair to wonder, now that he is Tennessee-bound, whether the team will regret losing their one and only drafted rookie cornerback.
At the onset of the 2025 offseason, cornerback seemed like the Packers’ biggest roster need. Their situation with Pro Bowl starter Jaire Alexander had deteriorated to the extent that his departure felt inevitable. They also allowed most of their depth at the position — such as former first-round Eric Stokes — to walk in 2025 free agency.
Even after they signed Hobbs to a four-year, $48 million contract, many expected they would invest a premium draft pick in another cornerback to bolster the position group.
Instead, the Packers showed faith in their returning cornerbacks — Keisean Nixon and Carrington Valentine — and bypassed the majority of the cornerback prospects in the class, waiting until the final round to take a chance on Robinson out of Tulane.
Unfortunately, the Packers’ plans at cornerbacks have holes in them at the midseason point. Hobbs has not lived up to the value of his contract, allowing a 127.1 passer rating against his coverage through the first seven games of the season. And now Robinson, their lone developmental rookie, is occupying a roster spot on another team’s roster.
Maybe the Packers will make adjustments before the NFL trade deadline next week, but it seems so far that their brazen decisions at the position could come back to bite them.
Will Packers Hold Steady at CB Despite Early Issues?
Analysts and fans have been regularly floating the Packers as potential buyers ahead of next week’s NFL trade deadline amid their cornerback struggles, but will they actually make a move to improve the position or hold steady with the talent they have now?
The Packers defied their standard operating procedure when they made a blockbuster trade for All-Pro pass rusher Micah Parsons before the regular season, but an out-of-character move for the Packers does not mean that general manager Brian Gutekunst and his front office have philosophically changed how they prefer to build their rosters.
While Gutekunst has said he believes the Packers should compete for a championship in 2025, he has also proven time and time again that he would rather trust the draft-and-develop strategy than make desperate moves to maximize the team’s window.
That said, the Packers could reasonably explore a trade for a cornerback if it falls in the price range of the Titans’ deal for McCreary. There are reports that Seattle’s Riq Woolen is available for a trade. ESPN has also speculated that Denver’s Ja’Quan McMillian and Cincinnati’s Cam Taylor-Britt could be moved before the deadline by their teams.
The Packers will have until 4 p.m. ET next Tuesday to finalize any more 2025 trades.
