Packers Predicted to Cut Ties With 51-Game Vet Before Regular Season

Kingsley Enagbare has been a steady rotational piece for the Green Bay Packers since arriving as a fifth-round pick in 2022, but his spot on the 2025 roster is far from guaranteed.

While he’s had flashes over his three seasons, the depth chart around him has grown increasingly crowded. With Lukas Van Ness still in the mix, Rashan Gary entrenched as a starter and new faces like Barryn Sorrell pushing for reps, Enagbare suddenly finds himself on the roster bubble.

Listed among his “notable cuts” in his latest 53-man roster projection, Acme Packing Company’s Justis Mosqueda doesn’t believe Enagbare will stick around.

“Lukas Van Ness is getting most of the “starting” looks opposite of Rashan Gary in camp so far, and the coaching staff continues to talk about Brenton Cox Jr.’s ability,” Mosqueda wrote on July 30.

“There may only be room for one veteran backup at this position, which will make the competition intense as we approach cutdowns.”

Enagbare has had a steady if unspectacular three‑year run with the Packers, but he’s in danger of being pushed down the depth chart and off the roster entirely, according to Mosqueda.

“At defensive end, Kinglsey Enagbare, Arron Mosby and Cox are fighting for what will probably be the only veteran backup job on the team,” Mosqueda noted, adding:

“Right now, I’m going to lean Cox in that situation, based on how the staff has talked about the room. The fact that both Van Ness and Cox have jumped over Enagbare on the depth chart this offseason, especially after Enagbare was the team’s starting defensive end after Preston Smith was traded mid-season last year, does not bode well for him.”

Enagbare was selected by the Packers in the fifth round (179th overall) of the 2022 NFL Draft. As a rookie, he played all 17 games and made seven starts, logging 31 total tackles (18 solo, five for loss), 3.0 sacks, eight QB hits and three passes defensed.

In 2023, Enagbare again appeared in all 17 games, starting four. He finished with 35 tackles (25 solo, eight for loss), 2.0 sacks, six QB hits, a pass breakup and a forced fumble.

During his 2024 campaign, Enagbare had a career-high 39 total tackles, 4.5 sacks and forced two fumbles across 17 games. His career totals through the end of 2024 stand at 107 tackles, 9.5 sacks, three forced fumbles, a fumble recovery and four pass deflections over 51 regular season games.

Brenton Cox Jr. joined the Packers as an undrafted free agent in 2023 after playing at Georgia and Florida. In 2024, he played in seven games, netting 12 tackles, 4.0 sacks and a forced fumble. Despite limited snaps, he posted a team-best 17% pass-rush win rate and a 13.7% pressure rate, per Next Gen Stats.

Collin Oliver, selected in the fifth round in 2025 out of Oklahoma State, had a standout freshman year with 11.5 sacks and 15.5 TFLs, later earning three straight Second-Team All-Big 12 honors.

There’s also Barryn Sorrell, a 2025 fourth-round pick out of Texas. Across his 49 games with the Longhorns, Sorrell amassed 132 combined tackles, 15.5 sacks and 26 tackles for loss, earning honorable mention All‑Big 12 honors in both 2022 and 2023. As a senior in 2024, he started 16 games and finished with 44 total tackles (11 for loss), 6.0 sacks and a pass breakup.

All three promise to challenge Enagbare in a big way. It’ll interesting to see how it all shakes out.
