Packers Receiver Given New Projection For Contract Extension

The Green Bay Packers will look to get their season back on track this Sunday when they face former Super Bowl champion, Joe Flacco, for the second time in the span of a month – only this time as the starting quarterback of the Cincinnati Bengals.

Whilst the defense was the main question mark in the tie with the Dallas Cowboys two weeks ago, it feels like the Jordan Love-led offense has still to hit top gear. Especially with them having had both Christian Watson – who will not play in week 6 – and Jayden Reed – who will miss at least another month – out for much of the season so far.

In line with that, one player who almost no one thought would be Packer come 2026, Romeo Doubs, has started to enter the limelight as a possible extension candidate.

What Could A Romeo Doubs Extension Look Like?

Jeremy Fowler reported in late September that Green Bay “have shown no interest in trading him, and my sense is they have more interest in potentially extending him.”

Now, Rob Demovsky – Fowler’s coworker at ESPN – has given a projection as to what that might look like for the former Nevada man.

Writing on Friday, Demovsky predicts that Doubs’ extension with the organization – if he does ultimately get one prior to free agency next March – could be somewhere in the range of the Baltimore RavensRashod Bateman on the low end, or the Buffalo BillsKhalil Shakir on the higher end.

“Doubs could be looking at a contract similar to the three-year, $36.75 million extension the Ravens gave Rashod Bateman in June or perhaps even the four-year, $53 million extension the Bills gave Khalil Shakir in March.” Demovsky wrote.

“Like Doubs, neither Bateman nor Shakir has had a 1,000-yard season. Bateman entered the league in 2021, a year before Doubs, while Shakir was picked 16 spots after Doubs in 2022.”

Would The Packers Be Wise To Bring Back Doubs?

Demovsky does concede that bringing back Doubs on a multi-year deal could be complicated, given the already crowded nature of the room that currently includes Watson, Reed, Dontayvion Wicks and rookies Matthew Golden and Savion Williams. All of whom are of starting caliber, and are signed through 2026.

Yet, Doubs has had a great start to the year; certainly by his standards, which could lend itself irregardless to him being rewarded with a new deal.

“He is on pace for 55 catches and 760 yards.” Demovsky wrote. “While those aren’t WR1-type numbers, that catch total would rank second only to the 59 catches he had in 2023, and his yards total would top his previous best season of 674, also in 2023 — the only season of his career in which he did not miss a game.”

Although the ultra-ruthless front office of the Green Bay are not prone to extensions out of sentimentality, given their lack of a true, bona fide WR1, and Doubs’ ability to step up and take up that mantle in numerous games over the course of his career, it would not be so surprising to see him receive a small but significant new deal in the coming months.
