Packers ‘X Factor’ Could be a ‘Top MVP Candidate’ in 2025

The Green Bay Packers have become a far more popular pick to win the NFC in 2025 after their blockbuster deal to acquire Micah Parsons earlier this week.

Yet, one ESPN NFL analyst believes another player on the roster could be the ultimate X factor for the franchise entering the 2025 NFL season.

Packers QB Jordan Love Named as a Potential MVP Finalist for 2025 NFL Season

Benjamin Solak of ESPN paired his X factors for all 32 teams in the NFL with a bold MVP bid for Packers QB Jordan Love in 2025 earlier this week.

“It sounds like Love will be fully healthy and ready to go for Week 1, even after having a procedure a couple of weeks ago to treat an injury to the thumb of his non-throwing hand. Remember that Love injured his knee in last season’s opener against the Eagles in Brazil and took a while to get back to full health,” wrote Solak. “If the Packers can improve their performance against the league’s top contenders and Love can stay healthy, they are set up to win a lot of games this season. And if they do that, their quarterback is going to be a top MVP candidate.”

The idea that the Packers will win more games in 2025 doesn’t feel all that crazy now that Parsons gives the Green Bay defense a pass-rushing presence this defense simply did not have last season.

Yet, there is a case to be made that this Green Bay team will only go as far as Love is capable of taking them in 2025.

Love’s breakout year in 2023 was great with 4,159 yards and 32 touchdown passes to go with just 11 interceptions and a surprising trip to the NFC Divisional Round, but his 2024 campaign did raise some questions with just 3,389 yards and 25 touchdown passes and a poor performance in the Wild Card Round loss to the Philadelphia Eagles.

If Love’s level of production returns to what we saw from him over the final two months of the 2023 NFL season, then an MVP bid is certainly within the range of outcomes.

Will the Packers’ Offense Reach New Heights with the Addition of Matthew Golden to the WR Room?

One reason for optimism regarding a Love MVP bid is the addition of Matthew Golden in round one of the 2025 NFL Draft. Matt Schniedman of The Athletic believes Golden’s impact on this Green Bay offense this year could even put him in the conversation for a league-wide award by boldly predicting the Texas product will win the Offensive Rookie of the Year award.

“The first-round rookie wide receiver already looks like the Packers’ best wideout in camp. His hands, especially, stand out. Maybe that’s just because the Packers dropped a boatload of passes last season, but the 22-year-old’s talent has been evident, nonetheless,” wrote Schneidman. “General manager Brian Gutekunst said Golden makes a play or two each practice that lets you know he’ll have a future in the NFL. On a team with a litany of injuries at receiver, Golden should get plenty of opportunities from the jump and only pick up steam from there. The only question is will the Packers pass the ball enough, and enough to him when they’d be justified in spreading it around, for Golden to have a shot at winning Offensive Rookie of the Year?”

The Packers still have some young talent on this roster with Jayden Reed, Tucker Kraft, and Romeo Doubs for Love to generate passing production. If Golden produces a monster rookie year and Parsons elevates an already solid defense into an elite unit, then the Packers could be in the mix for a Super Bowl appearance in 2025.
