The Kansas City Chiefs are winning on the field, but it’s not all about the action during plays. One of the reasons the Chiefs are so beloved is because their players and coaches give back, and that was apparent on Monday, October 20.
On Monday, quarterback Patrick Mahomes and his wife Brittany celebrated the sixth annual 15 and the Mahomies Gala. The charity, of course, was founded by Mahomes in 2019, and it’s a big part of how he gives back to the local community. The 15 stands for his number, so this wasn’t just a special moment for Mahomes, it was special for Chiefs Kingdom and commemorated the organization’s sixth year.
The gala took place at the Kay Barnes Grand Ballroom inside the Kansas City Convention Center, and Mahomes and his wife Brittany were both there to share in the fun. The Chiefs shared a photo on their official Instagram and X pages from the event, and the photo shows Patrick and Brittany alongside head coach Andy Reid and his wife, Tammy.
About Patrick Mahomes’ 15 and the Mahomies
15 and the Mahomies, according to the organization’s mission statement, is “dedicated to improving the lives of children. The Foundation supports initiatives that focus on health, wellness, communities in need of resources and other charitable causes.” The organization has a bevy of charity partners, including the Boys and Girls Clubs of Greater Kansas City, Children’s Mercy and Lead to Read.
One of their most popular programs is Read for 15, which has the goal “to encourage children to develop a love for reading. Children and their parents can take the Read For 15 pledge for a chance to win cool prizes throughout the 15 week program.” Their website asks for volunteers, stating, “Volunteer for 15 is a partnership between 15 and The Mahomies and Youth Volunteer Corps to encourage youth ages 11-18 to volunteer 15 hours. There are so many cool benefits to volunteering, like learning to understand people who are different, respecting others, being helpful and kind, and developing leadership skills.”
It’s really touching to see Mahomes give back, like he always does, along with his wife, Brittany.
Rankings for the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 8
The Chiefs proved that they’re no flash in the pan with a win over the Las Vegas Raiders in Week 7, but it didn’t move them up much in the For the Win Week 8 NFL Power Rankings. In the Monday, October 20 piece, Robert Zeglinski and Christian D’Andrea rank the Chiefs at No. 10, which is where they were last week, but give them some props.
“Reports of the Chiefs’ demise were greatly exaggerated. In a weaker-than-expected AFC, the Chiefs are 4-3 after an 0-2 start,” Zeglinski notes in the feature. “On a deeper level, Rashee Rice, who pled guilty to two felonies related to a high-speed crash in March 2024, was dynamite in his first game of the season (two touchdowns) as Patrick Mahomes’ favorite target.”
He adds that “Rice’s return is what makes the Chiefs dangerous, as Mahomes had already arguably been playing at an MVP level for a few weeks. What’s especially scary about the reigning AFC champions is that it looks like they’re only just now rounding into form. Phew.”
It’s certainly the case that having Rice back will really help the Chiefs moving forward. Bring it on.
