Patrick Mahomes on Track to Get One-Upped on Chiefs Bye Week

Even though the Kansas City Chiefs are on a bye week, that doesn’t mean the news stops. Even with quarterback in Patrick Mahomes, tight end Travis Kelce and the Chiefs squad off the field this weekend, things are shaking up in the NFL and changing the chemistry of the league.

Heading into the bye, the Chiefs are coming off a loss to the Buffalo Bills, with a stinging 28-21 final score. “They had a really good plan, man,” Mahomes told the media after the loss. “They have good pass rushers, made a good plan of doing some games and stuff up front and pushing the pocket, so credit to them. They had a great plan, and they have great players, and they made a lot of plays today.”

He added that the team has to learn from the loss. “It’s kind of like, we got to do it now,” Mahomes said. “Like, there’s no easy game coming up, and there’s no more chances that we can really take losses. So, I mean, you got to learn from it fast, and we got to be better as a team offensively.” Mahomes also said that the team will “just continue to push away and learn on this bye week and then come back and be ready to play our best football coming off of it.”

So, Mahomes is resting this week, but in doing so, another MVP-winning quarterback is close to one-upping him. That quarterback is also one of Mahomes’ biggest rivals.

Another NFL Quarterback is Creeping Up on Patrick Mahomes

Lamar Jackson of the Baltimore Ravens is an elite quarterback, as is Mahomes. Right now, Jackson has the best passer rating all-time, counting a total of 103.5, according to NFL research. So, Jackson is ahead of Aaron Rodgers, who is No. 2 all-time with a career passer rating of 102.6, and Mahomes, who is No. 3 of all-time at 101.8.

But, Mahomes and Rodgers have done something that Jackson hasn’t, and that’s earning a passer rating of more 100 in their first 100 starts. But, on Sunday, November 9, it will be Jackson’s 100th start. So, if his passer rating stays more than 100, he’ll join Mahomes and Rogers in that very elite class.

According to research from NFL Media, “Jackson can become the third quarterback all-time with a passer rating of 100-or-higher in his first 100 career starts, joining Aaron Rodgers (107.3 passer rating) and Patrick Mahomes (103.0).”

So, Jackson is at 99 starts with a total 103.5 passer rating. It would be surprising if he doesn’t stay above 100 on Sunday against the Minnesota Vikings.

Now, for the Kansas City Chiefs, it’s time to look ahead to Kansas City’s game on Sunday, November 16, against the Denver Broncos, who beat AFC rivals the Las Vegas Raiders on Thursday, November 6, in a 10-7 victory.

During the Chiefs’ matchup against the Bills, Mahomes still posted strong numbers, including completing 15-of-34 passes for 250 yards, according to NFL research. Next Sunday’s game will pit him against Broncos signal-called Bo Nix at Empower Field at Mile High in Denver.
