It’s official: Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes will miss the remainder of the 2025 season and beyond after suffering a torn ACL on December 14, and mother, Randi Mahomes, was among those reacting to the injury news on social media.
Randi Mahomes didn’t say much publicly after hearing the bad news, but she did quote her son’s message to fans, responding: “❤️🙏.”
In other words, Mama Mahomes is sending love and prayers for her son, as is the rest of Chiefs Kingdom.
It’s somewhat symbolic that the Chiefs’ season ends on the same day that Mahomes suffered this horrific injury. Without their fearless leader and two-time NFL MVP, Kansas City is not the same team.
The KC franchise was a perennial playoff contender before drafting their current QB1, but they were never a Super Bowl favorite or NFL juggernaut. With Mahomes, they’ve become that.
Needless to say, without him, they will likely regress back to what they were.
Randi Mahomes Shares Bible Study News Before Chiefs’ Week 15 Loss
GettyKansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes’ mother, Randi Mahomes.
Earlier this week, before her son’s injury and the Chiefs’ Week 15 loss to the Los Angeles Chargers, Randi Mahomes shared some news of her own.
“I almost talked myself out of this…but God had other plans,” she wrote on X. “Starting this Bible study has been such a blessing. If you’re feeling led to try something new, don’t be afraid to take the first step.”
This post also included a video message with Randi talking about her new bible study group.
“Everyone knows that my faith is really, really important to me,” she began in the accompanying video. “And God had put it in my heart to start a bible study. I have this new house. I can bring friends over — I wanted everyone to come. And the more I thought about it, the more it scared me to death.”
“It just kept getting too big,” Randi Mahomes continued. “And so, I got a couple of girlfriends, got them a book, and we’re going to do this. We’re going to do it together as a team.”
She also recommended the bible study book, “Draw the Circle,” by author Mark Batterson.
“It’s something that we can share together,” she concluded. “We’ve already started praying together, and it’s something that — I’ve never been the one to pray out loud in front of everyone, but as the years go [by], I’m like, I can do this. So, if you’re waiting for a sign to tell you to start something new or to do something that you’re afraid of, this is your sign. Because if I can do it, you can do it.”
It was a nice message from the NFL mom, who often talks about her faith. Her son has a similar relationship with religion, and there’s no doubt that the Mahomes family will lean on this faith as Patrick works his way back from injury.
Gardner Minshew Gets Another NFL Audition With Chiefs After Torn ACL Injury
With Mahomes sidelined indefinitely, Gardner Minshew will get another NFL audition as a starter, at least until the 2025 season has ended.
Minshew only signed a one-year deal with the Chiefs, and there’s no telling if he prefers to re-sign or seek out another opportunity elsewhere, but KC could sell him on a potential early-season starting gig in 2026 if they decide they want him back.
Mahomes will no doubt try to return in time for Week 1, but depending on how fast he gets his surgery and how quickly his body heals, he may not be ready in time for early September football.
That could mean Minshew, or someone else, may be called upon to start the first games of the 2026 season. With that in mind, getting an experienced backup QB under contract will certainly be a priority for general manager Brett Veach this offseason.
