Things are going well for Kansas City Chiefs quarterbackPatrick Mahomes and Co. during the second week of training camp at Missouri Western State University.
“It was good to see both sides of the ball making plays,” Chiefs head coach Andy Reid told reporters on Monday, August 1. “There was great competition going on, and when you do that, you start improving. That’s the objective in this thing: get a little bit better every day.”
Before the Chiefs report to their 10th day of training camp on Saturday, Mahomes and his wife, Brittany Mahomes, celebrated a big move as co-owners of the NWSL’s Kansas City Current.

Overall, Mahomes and Brittany’s decision to team up with owners Chris and Angie Long as investors has been wildly successful. After opening CPKC Stadium, the first premier sports venue built primarily for a women’s sports team, Forbes reported that the KC Current generated a league-high $36 million in revenue in 2024.
Despite being the fourth-smallest market team, the Current has the second-highest valuation of $275 million, second only to Angel City FC ($280 million), owned by Willow Bay and Bob Iger. While the Current garnered just $3 million in revenue in 2021, business boomed after they started playing at the new stadium.
The Current are winning on the field, as well, as they sit in first place in NWSL. Before the league resumes play this weekend, the KC Current invested in a new weapon for the team.
The KC Current Spent a Record-Breaking $600,000 to Trade for Ally Sentnor
While every team looks to chase the Current this season, the squad just became even stronger ahead of the playoff push.
The three-time Super Bowl MVP and Brittany both shared the same news announcement on their Instagram Stories, celebrating the Current’s trade to acquire midfielder Ally Sentnor from the Utah Royals.

To snag Sentnor, a former No. 1 overall pick, the Current coughed up “$600,00 in guaranteed intra-league transfer funds,” ESPN reported, “setting a new intra-league record for an NWSL transfer.”
The Longs shared in a statement, “We are thrilled to welcome Ally to Kansas City, and we know our passionate fanbase and community will embrace her immediately. From world-class facilities, a top-rate technical staff, and elite player amenities and robust infrastructure, we are incredibly proud of everything the Kansas City Current has built to-date.
“Attracting game-changing players like Ally is a testament to the environment and how the best players want to play for this club.”

Sentnor, a member of the U.S. Women’s National Team, is excited for her new home. “Playing for Kansas City is an incredible opportunity, and I can’t wait to feel the energy, ambition and heart of this club,” she said. “I’m grateful for the warm welcome. Let’s get to work!”
The Current won their seventh-straight game on Monday.
The KC Current Started Groundbreaking On A New $52 Million Performance Center
As the Longs mentioned in their statement, big things are happening with the franchise.
The KC Current announced earlier this month that they broke ground on a three-tiered expansion in Riverside, Missouri. “As the club continues to invest in the future of women’s soccer and the state of Missouri,” they are building Riverside Stadium, The Performance Center, and Pitch Expansion, totaling a $52 million investment.
The 2,000-seat Riverside Stadium will feature “a FIFA certified, heated grass pitch and gan amenities,” with an eye toward hosting a 2026 men’s World Cup base camp.
