New England Patriots fans are in a frenzy after the first half of their week two match against the Miami Dolphins after rookie kicker Andy Borregales missed two extra points in a row.
The Patriots went up 6-0 quickly when Drake Maye made a touchdown pass to Mack Hollins, his first TD as a Patriot.
Borregales then trotted out to attempt the PAT, but doinked it off the right post.
The Pats then drove down the field once again and Maye found Kayshon Boutte with a beautiful floater that Boutte was able to grab with one hand to extend the lead to 12-0.
I bet you can guess what happened next. Borregales shanked his second extra point right again to keep the Pats at 12 points.
Borregales did redeem himself with a short field goal attempt to get the Patriots to 15 points towards the end of the first half.
Feeding Frenzy on X
Patriots fans have gone on a frenzy on X, posting memes making fun of Borregales’ struggles in the first half:
Borregales won the kicker job in training camp over veteran Parker Romo. The move to choose Borregales over Romo came under fire from plenty of Patriots fans, analysts and reporters, who believed Romo should have won the job.
Those angry fans may have a point as Borregales seems completely overwhelmed in his second week as an NFL kicker in Miami.
Maye Cooking in Miami
Patriots quarterback Drake Maye had a phenomenal first half in Miami, completing 12/14 passes en route to three scoring drives. He had two well throw touchdown passes to Boutte and Hollins and had the Dolphins defense scrambling everywhere.
Maye found seven different receivers in the first half, with tight end Austin Hooper surprisingly racking up the most receptions with three. Stefon Diggs has two catches for 18 yards while running back TreVeyon Henderson has two receptions for 30 yards coming out of the backfield.
Maye has also scrambled six times for 27 total yards, highlighting his ability to read the defense well and pick up yardage in broken plays. Rhamondre Stevenson is having a bounce back game with 55 yards on eight carries through the first half.
