Patriots’ Stefon Diggs Gets Crucial Update Regarding Assault Allegations By Chef

New England Patriots wide receiver Stefon Diggs’ arraignment has been delayed at the request of his lawyers, Boston 25 reports.

The initial date was set for Friday, Jan. 23, but he will now face a judge on Friday, Feb. 13, which is after the conclusion of the 2025 NFL Season. Specifically, it will be five days after Super Bowl LX.

Diggs is facing charges of felony strangulation or suffocation stemming from an incident on Tuesday, Dec. 2, which was a day after the Patriots defeated the New York Giants. He is accused of hitting and choking his former personal chef due to a payment dispute, where she states he “smacked her across the face” and “tried to choke her using the crook of his elbow around her neck.”

Through his lawyer, David Meier, Diggs has denied the allegations.

“They are unsubstantiated, uncorroborated, and were never investigated — because they did not occur,” Meier said in a statement (per WBZ). “The timing and motivation for making the allegations is crystal clear: they are the direct result of an employee-employer financial dispute that was not resolved to the employee’s satisfaction. Stefon looks forward to establishing the truth in a court of law.”

On Friday, January 2, Diggs addressed reporters in the locker room at the conclusion of practice for the first time since news of the charges was revealed.

“Obviously, it’s a different time, a very emotional time. I’ve been taken aback by some of the things that’s been going on,” Diggs said. “But I want to be here to say sorry, I wasn’t available for those couple of days. It’s a different kind of time. Dealing with everything, it’s definitely an open case, so I can’t even say anything about it.”

“Regarding football, I’m going to continue to be the guy I’ve been,” he added. “Trying to finish the season strong. It’s a good team on the other side of the road. Going in with the right mindset, I’m going to keep the same mindset. I’ve been a leader on this team. I’ve been the same person this whole time. Don’t expect no changes from me.”

New England Patriots Show ‘Support’ For Stefon Diggs

On the same day as the charges against Diggs were made public, the Patriots released a statement, throwing their full support behind the wide receiver.

“The New England Patriots are aware of the accusations that have been made regarding Stefon Diggs. Stefon has informed the organization that he categorically denies the allegations. We support Stefon. We will continue to gather information and will cooperate fully with the appropriate authorities and the NFL as necessary. Out of respect for all parties involved, and given that this is an ongoing legal matter, we will have no further comment at this time,” the organization said (per ESPN’s Mike Reiss).

The NFL also released a statement.

“We are aware of the matter and have been in contact with the club. We have no further comment at this time,” the NFL said (per NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero).
