Ole Miss secured a big upset over LSU on Saturday in Oxford, 24-19.
Ole Miss came into the game as the No. 13 team in the country and gave fourth-ranked LSU its first loss of the year after icing the game with a 4th & 3 passing play.
Before the game, Paul Finebaum predicted Ole Miss to win during Friday’s edition of Get Up.
“I like the home team, Ole Miss,” Finebaum said, via On3. “This is such a narrow game, but to me, that home field matters.
Finebaum was right in his prediction that Ole Miss would win, and he also knew that Ole Miss fans would bring it for this game.
The Tigers had no answer for Rebels quarterback Trinidad Chambliss, who finished with 314 yards through the air, one touchdown, and one interception. He also had 71 rushing yards off 14 carries.
Offense was also hard to come by for the Tigers, since the Rebels limited the Tigers’ quarterback, Garrett Nussmeier, to only 197 yards through the air.
Lane Kiffin takes shot at Brian Kelly after Ole Miss beats LSU
Rebels head coach Lane Kiffin didn’t hold back on Twitter/X after his team took down the Tigers on Saturday evening.
Kiffin posted a picture of the Rebels’ “in-season opponent report,” which included a quote from Tigers head coach Brian Kelly from “The Brian Kelly Show” on Thursday.
“We’re looking forward to it,” Kelly said on his show. “We’re going to keep that Magnolia Trophy right here in Baton Rouge right where it deserves to be, and our guys are excited for the opportunity.”
The Tigers won last year’s matchup in Baton Rouge in overtime, 29-26, but weren’t able to make it two in a row this year. The Rebels have won two out of the last three in this rivalry, though the Tigers have a 64-43-4 all-time advantage over the Rebels.
More tough tests await LSU in the coming weeks
Despite this loss, LSU remains in good shape record-wise, but the program will face some stiff competition in October. Kelly’s team will host South Carolina at home on October 11, following the bye week, before traveling to Nashville to take on a red-hot Vanderbilt team on October 18.
Vanderbilt is 5-0 for the first time since 2008 and has one of the top offenses in the country. The Commodores have scored 30+ points in all five of their wins.
After that, the Tigers will host the Texas A&M Aggies on October 25, and there’s a decent chance College GameDay will be there for that game, especially if the Tigers can bounce back.
