Former Liverpool star Paul Ince has urged his old club to sign ‘unbelievable’ Bayern Munich defender Dayot Upamecano in January.
Upamecano’s contract is due to expire at the end of the season – and while talks are ongoing over an extension – no agreement has yet been reached.
The 27-year-old France international centre-back is a key player for Bayern and has helped the German side clinch three Bundesliga titles to date.
Upamecano, named in the Bundesliga Team of the Season last term, has played 176 games for Bayern since joining them from RB Leipzig in 2021.
But with speculation over Upamecano’s future, Ince wants to see Liverpool take advantage of the situation and bring the Bayern star to Anfield.

Liverpool have been defensively vulnerable this season under Arne Slot, conceding 24 goals across their opening 15 Premier League games.
Ince believes Upamecano would help ‘steady the ship’ at Liverpool if the Premier League champions are able to recruit him in the winter window.
‘If Liverpool are looking for a centre-half in January, then Dayot Upamecano at Bayern Munich is an unbelievable defender,’ Ince told Covers.com World Cup betting.
‘I’d love to see him at Anfield and I think he could do a great job for Liverpool in helping to steady the ship.
‘When you look at Liverpool defensively, they seem pretty short in terms of quality and cover.
‘They let Jarell Quansah go, while Joe Gomez seems to be in and out of the team.
‘They appear to be down to just two centre-halves at the moment, so Upamecano would be my pick to come in and steady the ship.’
Did Liverpool make mistake over Kerkez and Frimpong?
Meanwhile, a second former Liverpool player, Glen Johnson, believes his old club made a mistake by signing left-back Milos Kerkez and right-back Jeremie Frimpong in the most recent summer transfer window.
‘Liverpool very rarely get it wrong with transfers, but for me, they got it wrong with the signing of Jeremie Frimpong and Milos Kerkez in the summer,’ Johnson told BetWright online casino UK.
‘I don’t want to be too harsh on new players or write them off, because it does take time for some to settle down at a big club like Liverpool, especially when coming from teams where there’s less pressure.
‘But at the moment, they don’t look up to it.
‘It’s strange, because Liverpool usually hit the nail on the head with these types of deals – so many statistics and data goes into their recruitment – but, for now, it looks as if they’ve got those deals wrong.’
