Nobody is quite sure what to expect from the Las Vegas Raiders in 2025.
They are coming off of a 4-13 season and play in one of the toughest divisions of all time. But with new coach Pete Carroll in charge, a new-look roster full of exciting talent, and a somewhat easy schedule outside of the division, Raiders fans also have reason to be optimistic.
The only person who seems to know exactly what to expect is Coach Carroll.
At his Press conference following the first day of Raiders training camp on Tuesday July 22, 2025, Carroll’s claims about the Raiders season were incredibly bold.
“I’ve been winning 10 games a year for 20 years now. We’re gonna win a bunch and I don’t care who hears that,” Carroll said.
But even more bold than that were Carroll’s claims about the Raiders defensive secondary.
“We’re really athletic, we’re really fast, and we’re big,” Carroll said. “It’s an impressive looking group. I can’t remember ever having a group that looks more impressive than this group.”
Yes. You heard that right. Pete Carroll, who coached the Legion of Boom defensive secondary, called this Raiders secondary more impressive than any group he coached with the Seattle Seahawks.
“My guys will be pissed at me up north that I said that, the old guys,” Carroll admitted. “But it’s the truth.”
Who Do the Raiders Have At DB?
The Raiders added several free agents in the secondary that are expected to be leaders.
That includes LBs Elandon Roberts and Germaine Pratt, both expected to be starters, CB Eric Stokes and S Jeremy Chinn.
They also drafted Darien Porter in the third round of the 2025 NFL draft and he is expected to start immediately.
But it’s also good for Raiders fans to hear that Carroll is high on their incumbent players. S Isaiah Pola-Mao, LB Tommy Eichenberg and CB Darnay Holmes are three Raiders returners to watch; they are all also expected to start this year.
Even though plenty of those players are good or even great NFL players, Carroll must be expecting basically all of them to take a big leap forward this season.
The “founding fathers” of Carroll’s Legion of Boom secondary, Richard Sherman, Kam Chancellor, Earl Thomas and Bobby Wagner, have been in 26 Pro Bowls combined.
No member of the Raiders secondary currently projected to start has ever made a Pro Bowl appearance.
Raiders Sign Jamal Adams
Carroll’s comments also come amid a really intriguing move in the Raiders secondary.
Just before training camp started on Tuesday July 22, 2025, news broke that the Raiders had signed safety Jamal Adams.
Adams is a three-time Pro Bowler who previously played with Pete Carroll. Since 2020 he’s dealt with several injuries and in 2024 he bounced around to three different teams.

Adams is reportedly going to play closer to the line of scrimmage and be a disruptor in the backfield, where he has historically excelled. He gives the Raiders even more experience in the secondary, which they have added a lot of this offseason.
What do you think, Raiders fans? Can this secondary be better than the Legion of Boom?
