Pressure Mounting for Ravens in Another ‘Super Bowl-or-Bust’ Season

As long as the Ravens have Lamar Jackson at quarterback, their Super Bowl window will remain open. Baltimore retained and brought in top-level talent at several key positions, re-signing Derrick Henry and Ronnie Stanley and bringing in cornerbacks Chidobe Awuzie and star Jaire Alexander.

The Ravens entered last season with Super Bowl or bust expectations and “are one of the few teams that should have a Super Bowl-or-bust mentality” once again in 2025, according to Bleacher Report‘s Moe Moton.

Pressure Meter for Ravens at a 9 out of 10 in 2025

The consistent knock on Lamar Jackson has been his relative lack of playoff success. But, his performance has only improved over the past 2 seasons.

During his first 4 playoff games, Jackson struggled mightily. He completed just under 56% of his passes for 3 touchdowns and 5 interceptions. Since then, the Ravens superstar has stepped up considerably. He improved his completion percentage by over 10 percentage points and has thrown 7 touchdowns to just 2 interceptions.

Unfortunately, Jackson’s fumble troubles have continued. He fumbled 5 times during his first 4 playoff games, losing 2 of them. In the 4 games since, he’s only fumbled twice, though he lost both.

“Over the last seven years, Jackson has earned two league MVP awards, the Ravens have won three AFC North titles and head coach John Harbaugh has signed three extensions, but the Ravens don’t have much to show for those accolades and rewards,” writes Moton.

The Ravens have lost three consecutive one-score games in the playoffs, including last year’s “heart-wrenching” Divisional Round loss against Buffalo. The loss has turned into a source of vengeance for Baltimore, especially Mark Andrews.

“If the Ravens fall short of a Super Bowl appearance, one has to wonder what the team must do to get over the playoff hump,” writes Moton. “That said, Harbaugh and his coaching staff have strong job security, and Baltimore has begun negotiations with Jackson’s camp on an extension.”

The Ravens are one of the teams with the most on the line this season, registering at a 9 out of 10 on Moe Moton’s “pressure meter.” Could this be the year they earn their first Super Bowl berth since 2012?

Lamar Jackson Ranked No. 11 on List of Top 30 Players All-Time Without a Super Bowl

While last year may have been Lamar Jackson’s best chance at a Super Bowl so far, Ravens fans are used to the hype. Even though there were several factors that led to their loss, turnovers are an easy scapegoat, especially considering Lamar’s past.

“Fresh off of an AFC title game appearance, the Ravens started 8-5 this past year before winning five straight games,” writes Bryan DeArdo of CBS Sports. “But turnovers, which was the main reason for Baltimore’s slow start, once again caught up to them in its divisional round playoff loss to the Bills.”

Obviously, Lamar and the Ravens would prefer that he’s ineligible for the list next year. But, in case he isn’t, there’s no reason he shouldn’t jump from No. 11 into the top 10. If Jackson can replicate his performance in the regular season, he should be in contention for a third MVP.

He’s already in rarified air as one of only 11 players in NFL history to win multiple MVPs. Aaron Rodgers and Patrick Mahomes are the only other active players in that group, and both are Hall-of-Fame locks.
