Proposed Blockbuster MLB Trade Has Yankees Land $66 Million 2-Time All-Star

With the MLB All-Star Game in the rearview mirror, the focus now turns to the trade deadline where the New York Yankees could be one of the more active teams looking to strike deals. The Yankees and other clubs have until the MLB trade deadline on July 31, 2025, to make a deal.

Yankees general manager Brian Cashman has been open about the team’s desire to improve at the deadline. One player New York continues to be linked to is Arizona Diamondbacks third baseman Eugenio Suárez. Fresh off his second All-Star appearance, Suarez appears to be generating plenty of buzz around the MLB.

Sports Illustrated’s Mark Morales-Smith crafted a potential trade proposal that has the Yankees landing Suarez. The Diamondbacks receive pitcher Cam Schlitter and coveted prospect Kyle Carr as part of the deal.

Let’s dive into how Suarez would fit on the Yankees.

The Yankees Continue to Be Linked to Diamondbacks 3B Eugenio Suarez in MLB Trade Rumors

One of the obvious advantages of acquiring Suarez is adding a bit more hitting to New York’s lineup via the infield. Through 95 games, Suarez is batting .250 with 31 home runs and 78 RBI.

“The fact that he could be heading to the New York Yankees, who are in dire need of an upgrade at third base, is one of the worst-kept secrets around the league,” Morales-Smith wrote in a July 15, 2025, story titled, “MLB Mock Blockbuster Trade: Yankees Acquire Eugenio Suarez From Arizona Diamondbacks.” “To the point that Suarez had to address the trade rumors during the All-Star Media Day.

“… The Yankees are always buyers and always in win-now mode. No team has more consistently high expectations in all of professional sports than the Yankees, who are always expected to be World Series contenders year in and year out,” Morales-Smith added.

“They are looking to get back on top of MLB and win their first championship since 2009. Suarez adds a ton of pop to their lineup and has no issue driving in runs. Something the Yankees need on a consistent basis. They have proven to be willing to move young players for the future to win in the moment.”

Eugenio Suarez on Yankees Trade Rumors: ‘It’s a Team That Wants to Win’

As for Arizona, it would be a blow losing an All-Star infielder, but the deal would bolster the team’s pitching for the future. Suarez did not sound opposed to being dealt to the Yankees when the star was asked about the ongoing rumors amid the MLB All-Star festivities.

“I’m happy where I am, but I understand the game and the business,” Suarez said, per SNY.TV. “Whatever happens, if I stay it’s fine but if I go its okay too, I will do my best wherever I am — right now I’m happy where I am.

“The Yankees are the Yankees. It’s a team that wants to win. They had success last year but are still hungry, if I go there I will do my best to try and help them win the World Series.”

Suarez is in the final few months of a seven-year, $66 million contract and a deal would allow the Diamondbacks to get something in return for the potential free agent.
