The San Antonio Spurs can boast the best cast of big men in NBA history. From David Robinson, Tim Duncan, and now Victor Wembanyama, the Spurs have dominated the paint for most of the last 40 years.
Robinson ended his career alongside Duncan, and while the two legends are still around in San Antonio, Wembanyama didn’t have a future Hall of Fame center to show him the ropes on the court.
As he prepares for his third season and the Spurs hope to take a leap, a proposed trade would add one of the best frontcourt players of all time to the roster.

Trade Pitch Allows Spurs, Wembanyama to Take Tim Duncan Route
The Spurs boast one of the best young cores in the NBA, but there are very real concerns that the youngsters will develop too slowly for Wembanyama. After trading for De’Aaron Fox, the Spurs seem poised to open a title window.
While Stephon Castle, Dylan Harper, Jeremy Sochan, and Devin Vassell are all talented and brimming with potential, there is no guarantee that they will ever live up to the expectations the Spurs have.
As a result, the Spurs have been linked to several win-now players, although the biggest blockbuster remains Giannis Antetokounmpo.
Bleacher Report’s Andy Bailey proposed a deal on September 23rd that would immediately make the Spurs frontrunners, even in the West.
For Antetokounmpo, the Milwaukee Bucks would get Vassell, Harper, Castle, a 2026 first-round pick, a 2028 first-round pick, a 2030 first-round pick (via MIN and a 2031 first-round pick (via SAC) from the Spurs.
“The San Antonio Spurs could pair Giannis with Victor Wembanyama to form perhaps the most formidable front court since David Robinson and Tim Duncan wore the team’s colors,” he wrote.

San Antonio Spurs Would Be a Dynasty
With Fox already signed to a maximum extension, he is in place as the point guard for the future. The Spurs would likely have trouble juggling their trio’s contracts when Wembanyama is due for an extension, although by then, the Spurs may have already won a title.
The promise of another ring could make salary negotiations easier.
The Bucks don’t seem to be in a rush to get rid of their best player, although adding the reigning Rookie of the Year and the second overall pick would sweeten the pot. Critically, the Bucks wouldn’t get back a Spurs’ pick in this deal.
With Antetokounmpo, Wembanyama, and Fox leading the way, Milwaukee shouldn’t have any interest in draft capital coming from the Spurs, so San Antonio would have to re-route picks from their warchest. If needed, the Spurs have a 2027 pick from the Atlanta Hawks, as well.
San Antonio likely wouldn’t take trading two young guards lightly, but for a chance to stack titles, it’s worth taking a look at. The Bucks, meanwhile, jumpstart a rebuild while Antetokounmpo’s value is at its highest.
