The Philadelphia Eagles just added defensive line and edge rushing depth with the return of franchise legend Brandon Graham. But Philly Voice’s Jimmy Kempski argued there’s a scenario where the Eagles could add more help at the same position with another aging star — Calais Campbell.
On Monday, Kempski proposed the Eagles acquire Campbell for a sixth-round pick from the Arizona Cardinals.
“Campbell is 39 years old, but still productive. He’s been a bit of a mercenary in recent years, moving from team-to-team on one-year deals,” wrote Kempski.
“Grain of salt as always, but PFF had Campbell graded as the 7th best defensive lineman in the NFL last season. He’s 13th in 2025.
“Campbell is a versatile lineman who can play on the edge or on the interior, and the Eagles could use more depth at both spots. The Eagles and Chiefs reportedly were interested in signing Campbell during free agency this past offseason.”
Campbell is in his 18th NFL season. In seven games with the Cardinals this fall, he has posted three sacks, five tackles for loss, nine quarterback hits and one pass defense.
Campbell made first-team All-Pro with the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2017. The defensive lineman also made second-team All-Pro in 2014 and 2016.
He has 113.5 sacks, 18 forced fumbles, 64 pass defenses and three interceptions in 268 NFL games.

The pass rush has been Philadelphia’s defensive strength for quite some time. But the Eagles suddenly need reinforcements along the edge.
That’s why the team brought Graham, who turned 37 years old in April, out of retirement.
Graham is younger than Campbell, but Campbell has been playing throughout the 2025 season. That likely puts him in better football shape and in superior position to contribute immediately.
Campbell hasn’t played a lot this season. But he’s dressed for every contest and lined up for 48% of the team’s defensive snaps. Campbell also has a role on special teams for the Cardinals.
The 18-year veteran returned to the Cardinals this year. Arizona drafted Campbell in the second round of the 2008 NFL Draft. But Campbell left following the 2016 season.
From 2017-24, Campbell played for the Jaguars, Baltimore Ravens, Atlanta Falcons and Miami Dolphins.
During that time, Campbell arguably played the best football of his career. Starting in 2017, the 39-year-old made four straight Pro Bowls.
Campbell Would Get Super Bowl Shot With Eagles
Campbell played in the Super Bowl as a rookie in February 2009. But the Cardinals lost that contest, and Campbell has yet to return to the big game.
His team lost in the championship game following the 2015 and 2017 campaigns.
Campbell won’t get a chance to get back to the Super Bowl with the Cardinals this year. But he would have the opportunity with another team, such as the Eagles, if Arizona trades him.
However, that is far from a guarantee to happen. Campbell returned to the Cardinals this past offseason to likely end his career where he started. He might prefer the sentimental value of finishing in Arizona over another chance at a championship.
Of all the teams Campbell could be traded to, though, the defending champions would be one of the best destinations. The Eagles could also really use him for their push to win a second consecutive title.
