Proposed Trade Has Yankees Land New $13 Million Starter & Highly Touted Pitcher

The New York Yankees have some work to do amid a quiet offseason. New York continues to be linked to several big fish in MLB rumors with the free agency period still humming along.

The Yankees could also turn to the trade market to improve the club’s roster. Bleacher Report’s Joel Reuter outlined several potential moves to “salvage” the Yankees offseason.

One trade pitch has New York cutting ties with a young prospect in favor of bolstering the team’s pitching. The trade proposal has the Yankees landing a pair of Cincinnati Reds pitchers in Brady Singer and Chase Petty. Touted outfielder Jasson Dominguez goes to the Reds as part of the deal.

Let’s dive into this trade proposal for the Yankees.

Yankees Rumors: MLB Trade Pitch With Reds Has Yankees Bolster Pitching With Brady Singer & Chase Petty

Singer would give the Yankees another veteran pitcher on a manageable one-year, $13 million contract. The pitcher is coming off a season posting a career-high 14 wins, 12 losses with a 4.03 ERA and 163 strikeouts in 2025. Singer has played in 159 games over his six MLB seasons.

Like Dominguez, Petty’s value is more based on upside. The 22-year-old pitcher was selected by the Minnesota Twins in the first round of the 2021 MLB draft with the No. 26 overall pick. Petty would give the Yankees another young arm to develop with an eye towards the future.

“His fastball is almost a setup pitch to his secondary offerings, but he still averaged 95-96 mph, touching the upper 90s, and his two-seamer features good sink for groundball contact,” MLB.com’s scouting report on Petty outlined. “At times he has a distinct upper-80s slider and a 91-92 mph cutter, although they occasionally run into each other. They miss bats at a high rate in any iteration. He has a firm upper-80s changeup that isn’t quite as effective, but it can kill spin and offer some sink and fade.

“With an athletic delivery, Petty has a strong track record of filling up the strike zone, though his walk rate did balloon in Double-A in 2024. He’s still very young for his stage of development, pitching all of 2025 at age 22, and he came to Spring Training even more physical. He’s officially in knocking on the door territory with a mid-rotation ceiling.”

The Yankees Could Use Jasson Dominguez as a Trade Chip

The Yankees continue to be bullish on Dominguez’s upside. Throughout the offseason, manager Aaron Boone has maintained Dominguez can be a key part of the Yankees roster in 2026. Reuter outlined why New York may need to consider utilizing Dominguez as a trade chip.

“Still only 22 years old, Domínguez posted a 101 OPS+ with 10 home runs, 47 RBI and 23 steals over 123 games in his first full season in the majors, and he has long been regarded as a potential future star,” Reuter wrote in December 19, 2025, story titled, “Yankees Free-Agency and Trade Blueprint to Salvage the Offseason in 5 Steps.”

“However, he logged a middling .618 OPS with five extra-base hits in 120 plate appearances after the All-Star break and was a non-factor down the stretch, so the Yankees could opt to move him while upside still drives his value.”
