Things are already going wrong for the Las Vegas Raiders this season. The team is 1-3 and is coming off a brutal loss against the Chicago Bears that they could’ve easily won.
If things keep going downhill for the Raiders, they might want to consider what move they can make to help build for the future. Wide receiver Jakobi Meyers has already asked for a trade, but Las Vegas denied his request.
He’s going to be a free agent after the season, and the Raiders don’t seem keen on paying him. It would make sense to trade him and get an asset instead of letting him walk for nothing after the season.
The Atlanta Falcons are a team pushing to make the playoffs, but could use additional wide receiver help. Alex Kay of Bleacher Report pitched a trade that would send Meyers to the Falcons for a 2026 fourth-round pick.
Meyers has been moonlighting as a WR1 for the Las Vegas Raiders following Davante Adams’ departure and leads the club with 21 catches for 258 yards and 33 targets,” Kay wrote. “While those are strong marks, he’d make for an excellent No. 2 option behind London in Atlanta and has the ability to instantly elevate the Falcons receiving corps to one of the league’s best.
“It would also oblige the trade request Meyers made this offseason, clearing up any potential contractual issues that could be on the horizon. With Penix needing to find consistency in order to make the leap and take the Falcons into contention, the team shouldn’t hesitate to give up some valuable Day 2 capital to make this deal happen.
Is a 4th-Rounder Enough for Meyers?
A fourth-round pick does little to help the Raiders this season. However, that’s likely the best they can do for Meyers in a trade. They only got a third-round pick for Davante Adams last season, who is much more accomplished than Meyers.
Any team that trades for him is also going to have to give him a contract, so that could also hurt his value. If a team is willing to give up a fourth-round pick for him, the Raiders need to consider it.
Jack Bech Needs a Bigger Role
Another reason why trading Meyers wouldn’t be the worst idea is that it would allow some younger players to get more playing time. Second-round pick Jack Bech played just five snaps against the Chicago Bears in Week 4.
It’s unclear why the Raiders are bringing him along so slowly. He was drafted higher than Dont’e Thornton Jr., but he isn’t getting nearly as much playing time. Some of the best wide receivers in the NFL were second-round picks, so he should be making an impact as a rookie.
Meyers and Bech have a very similar skillset, so that could be why the latter isn’t seeing the field as much. If the Raiders aren’t going to be in the playoff race, they might as well give Bech more reps so that he can be ready to be a starter next season. As of now, it’s difficult to know just how good he is.
