QB Justin Fields Has 4-Word Message for New York Giants

The New York Giants have been having some joint practice sessions with the New York Jets during the preseason, and the result has been telling. Of course, there was some drama at practice, and during the teams’ matchup on Wednesday, August 13, a few fights broke out between Jets and Giants players. Head coaches Brian Daboll and Aaron Glenn had to cool everyone off, but it’s the preseason, and tensions are high.

But, aside from the scuffles, there have been some really good things that have stood out for the Giants during these joint practices. The team is even impressing some of the players on the Jets’ squad, including quarterback Justin Fields.

Justin Fields Sings the Praises of the New York Giants

The New York Giants have been the brunt of plenty of jokes in the NFL the past few season, but they could be a sleeper hit this season. Jets quarterback Fields is taking notice.

This past week, the teams held joint practices at Florham Park and East Rutherford, and after the practices, Fields talked about the observations that he made about the Giants’ new defense. His words were very kind.

He said four words about the Giants that really stood out, saying that the team is “really good up front.” In full context, his words were, “They’re going to be really good up front.”

It’s really wonderful to get some positive feedback from a veteran like Fields. At this point, the Giants will take any good sign that comes there way, but this is an extra good one.

Fights at Giants and Jets Practice

During one of the Giants and Jets practices, Giants running back Tyrone Tracy Jr. was tossed to the ground, and that sparked a bit of a fight. According to USA Today, “Offensive lineman Greg Van Roten and Jon Runyan Jr. were quick to intervene on behalf of Tracy, getting into it with Will McDonald, who violated the spirit of the rules with the tackle, and Quan’tez Stiggers.”

After the tiff, Runyan spoke out about what happened. “Like to think we were standing up for our guys and not falling into the BS the Jets felt like they had to play with,” Runyan told the New York Post. “I feel we just kept doing our thing. I feel like we frustrated them.”

In addition, although it wasn’t reported on as much, Pat Leonard of the New York Daily News reported that Marcus Mbow threw a punch.

Fights are starting, practice escalating. Marcus Mbow threw a punch. Jon Runyan Jr. growing frustrated with Jets defense hits on #Giants skill players,” he said on X. “#Jets’ Will McDonald in the middle of it. Greg Van Roten standing up to it too. Jets’ Qwan’tez Stiggers also fired up.”

Marcus Mbow also spoke with the publication, stating, “Smart retaliation, in my opinion. You just can’t let your brother get tossed around or late hits or things that are not good for the game. You have to respect coaches’ wishes and not fight, but it gets to a point, you can’t let people stomp all over you.”
