New York Jets linebacker Quincy Williams is entering a contract year in 2025.
Ahead of that pivotal season, Williams took to social media to send a frightening message.
“Them: Explain training camp in one sentence
Me: I’ll die before I let another man family eat before mines 🃏,” Williams posted on X previously Twitter.

EXCLUSIVE: Insider Shares His Take on Williams-Jets Situation
ESPN NFL Insider Jeremy Fowler joined me on “Boy Green Daily” over the weekend.
During that conversation, Fowler addressed the “tough call” the Jets are dealing with regarding Williams’ current contract situation.
“I imagine with what the Jets just spent with Sauce Gardner and Garrett Wilson, they are not going to be eager to give a linebacker $16 million to $17 million a year right now. Which I think in his [Williams’] position is probably what it would take, right? I don’t know if you’re taking less than [Jamien] Sherwood because you’re more accomplished, and you’re probably slightly better,” Fowler explained to me.
Williams has been a full-time starter for the Jets across four seasons, and 2025 will be his fifth consecutive year (61 starts; if you include his tenure with the Jacksonville Jaguars, he has had 69 starts).
Sherwood has only been a full-time starter for a single season, last year, and 2025 will be his second consecutive year (23 career starts).
Quincy is more accomplished in every way than Jamien: accolades (first-team All-Pro), games appeared (83), total tackles (530). For context, Williams entered the league two years earlier than Sherwood.
“My sense is they [the Jets] have prioritized the two stars, and then they will go from there and see if they can work something out. Quincy is a player I can see playing it out and doing pretty well in free agency if he chose to go that route,” Fowler told me.
It appears that is what Williams is choosing to do. Despite his contract situation, Williams has been a full participant in all team activities this offseason.
With Williams making almost a third ($6 million) of what Sherwood is making ($15 million), things could have gotten awkward.
To his credit, Williams has been business as usual. Williams is 28 years of age, but he will turn 29 ahead of the 2025 season.
In Fowler’s top 10 off-ball linebacker rankings heading into 2025, Williams was ranked No. 10 among that group. He even received votes to be the second-best linebacker in the NFL.
This isn’t just a normal contract negotiation for the Jets. On paper, it appears difficult to envision how the Jets will be able to shell out the necessary shekels for Williams, considering what they already paid Sherwood.
However, Quincy is the older brother of Jets superstar Quinnen Williams. How the Jets handle Quincy’s contract situation could have a direct impact on Quinnen.
A very touchy situation. Especially considering the younger Williams brother displayed his frustration with the franchise earlier this offseason when they announced they were moving on from four-time NFL MVP Aaron Rodgers.
