Raiders Called on to Cut Ties With Former All-Pro Starter After Chargers Game

It appears that firing offensive coordinator Chip Kelly wasn’t the move that was going to turn the Las Vegas Raiders‘ season around. The team played the Los Angeles Chargers in Week 13, and once again, the offense was lifeless.

The defense actually played a strong game in the first half and only allowed seven points. However, the Chargers eventually wore them down, as the Raiders’ offense couldn’t stay on the field, and only scored 14 points.

If you just look at the stats, linebacker Devin White had a solid game, accumulating 11 total tackles. Despite that, many fans weren’t happy with his perceived lack of effort on the Chargers’ first touchdown drive.

White got beaten in coverage by wide receiver Quentin Johnston, and when he caught the ball, the linebacker seemingly gave up on the play. Johnson ended up breaking tackles and scoring a touchdown. This isn’t the first time White’s lack of effort on a play has caught attention. Fans are ready to see the team move on from the linebacker.

“That should be the last play for Devin White with the Raiders, just stopped trying and went to blame his teammates,” one fan wrote on X.

“You gotta cut Devin White. He literally gives up on plays that he doesn’t make initially. Zero pursuit or care,” another fan commented.

“Devin White needs to be CUT,” a different fan wrote.

White Not Likely to Be Cut

The Raiders were 2-9 heading into this game, so it’s easy to understand why players might not put their bodies on the line every play. White is on a one-year deal, so he has no security pass this season.

At the same time, what team is going to want to sign a player who gives up on plays and has a reputation for being difficult? The Raiders don’t have a lot of options right now, so it’s hard to imagine they’ll make any drastic moves with White. He leads the team with 114 combined tackles. He’s being productive, he’s just not making many big plays.

The Raiders are already bad enough, and cutting their top tackler doesn’t seem in the cards right now.

Raiders Eliminated From Playoff Contention

The Raiders have essentially been out of the playoff race for weeks, but with several games left in the season, the team was technically still mathematically in the hunt. With the Week 13 loss, the Raiders have officially been eliminated.

Also, with the loss, this marks the third time a Pete Carroll team has lost 10 games in his entire career. With one more loss, Carroll will officially have the worst season of his coaching career.

The only silver lining is that the Raiders have moved up to No. 4 in the draft order. The New York Giants have yet to play, so if they win, Las Vegas would move up to No. 3.

The Raiders will have a chance to add one of the top prospects coming out of college if they continue to lose. That’s the only thing the franchise has to look forward to the rest of the season.
