The Las Vegas Raiders have officially cemented themselves as one of the worst teams in the NFL. Following a 40-6 blowout loss ot the Indianapolis Colts, the team has fallen to 1-4.
The Raiders couldn’t do anything right in Week 5, as the offense, defense and special teams were all terrible. One of the few players who still consistently shows up for the team is defensive end Maxx Crosby.
The Pro Bowler didn’t have a notable game in Week 5, but he did have a tackle for loss, a pass defended and a quarterback hit. He continues to prove that he’s one of the best defensive players in the NFL.
However, he’s been very vocal about how he’s sick of losing, and the Raiders aren’t going to be a playoff team this season. Las Vegas gave Crosby a three-year, $106.5 million contract extension this offseason, which keeps him under team control through 2029.
It’s hard to imagine that he’d request a trade right now so soon after signing that contract, but many feel like his talent is being wasted in Las Vegas. If the Raiders did decide to trade Crosby, they’d certainly get a haul in return.
Raiders Called on to Trade Crosby
Crosby is almost certainly the most beloved player in the Raiders‘ fan base. Unfortunately, even they’re getting to the point where they believe the team should consider sending him to a team where he has a better chance to win.
I wouldn’t even be mad or upset if Maxx Crosby request a trade. Tattoos could be removed or drawn over,” one fan wrote.
Trade Maxx Crosby for the simple fact that we don’t deserve him,” another fan commented.
I think the Raiders need to trade Maxx Crosby in order to get more draft capital for next year. The Raiders don’t deserve a player like him. He should go to a good team,” a fan wrote on X.
The fact that new general manager John Spytek was so quick to pay Crosby shows that they believe he’s a player they want to build around. The problem is that he’s 28 and might not be interested in a multi-year rebuild.
What Would be a Fair Price for Crosby?
While 28 might be old for a rebuilding team, he’s still got a few years left of his prime for a veteran team that’s competing. If the Raiders trade away Crosby, they should be looking at a similar package to what the Dallas Cowboys got for Micah Parsons, which was two first-round picks and a veteran defender.
How much would Crosby be worth to a team hoping to win the Super Bowl like the Detroit Lions or Buffalo Bills? The problem is money, as Crosby is making a lot, and teams don’t have much salary cap space at this point in the season.
The Raiders do have a lot of salary cap space, so they could potentially take on some of his salary for this season for a better trade return. It’d be a tough pill to swallow to trade a player like Crosby, but the Raiders aren’t winning with him anyway.
