The Las Vegas Raiders will be facing the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 18 on January 4 at Allegiant Stadium in what could be the final game for tight end Travis Kelce.
Kelce has tormented the Raiders during his career, with 131 catches for 1,636 yards and 12 touchdowns in 23 games versus the Silver and Black, per StatMuse. Ahead of the Week 18 game, Las Vegas linebacker Devin White spoke about Kelce and reflected on the Chiefs star’s career.
“Overall, he’s the best,” White said about Kelce (h/t Vegas Sports Today). “I think he’ll go down as the best ever in the game. Maybe a long time [from now], somebody can pass him… I feel like he take the cake with just his saveness, being able to get open. The emotion, the swagger that he plays with. I think that helps him along the way.
“It just shows you why he’s a fan favorite. He’s able to accumulate the Super Bowls, All-Pros, and Pro Bowls to go down as a Hall of Famer. So it’ll be good. If it’s his last game, I don’t know. But it’ll be good to play against him and be able to compete because one thing about him, he’s a competitor on the field. It’ll be good to go against him.”
Should Chiefs’ Travis Kelce Return for One More Season?
Kelce could decide to leave the game while still contributing, without being a shell of his former self. This season, the Chiefs standout has recorded 73 catches for 839 yards and has scored five touchdowns in 16 games.
White was asked whether Kelce should consider one more season, as he might want to end his career on a better note rather than on a non-playoff campaign for Kansas City.
“He got whatever he want,” White added. “Aaron Donald went out as a Super Bowl champion. I felt like that’s the best defensive player ever. He had way more in the tank left. But you never know when the guy is full. No matter if they got a lot left, they got a lot of money, they don’t have a lot of money. It’s all about how you feel mentally.
“I know that’s one thing he’ll assess after the season. If he is done, congrats on the Hall of Fame career. If he ain’t done and I’m back here, let’s battle it out for some more years if I’m back here. That’s just what it is with that.”
Raiders Look to Secure No. 1 Pick
While this game potentially being Kelce’s last is a nice side story, the main one will be whether the Raiders can lose to secure the No. 1 pick. ESPN reporter Brooke Pryor recently shared what Las Vegas’ ownership, including Tom Brady, is thinking as they head into their final game of the 2025 NFL season.
“[Raiders] ownership [is] telling the coaching staff and the players that they want the No. 1 overall pick above all else,” Pryor said in a video posted by ESPN on December 30. “… Things have not gone well, but it leaves you with a sour taste in your mouth.
“If you’re one of those Raiders players that is hearing from ownership, ‘Look, we don’t want you to win. It is better for us if you lose, and then we can focus on the future,’ especially because there are definitely guys in that locker room that are not a part of the Raiders’ future equation.
“They don’t really care about the future, but Tom Brady and those owners, they would like to win. They would like to have that No. 1 overall pick when the draft is in Pittsburgh, just in a couple of months.”
