It’s been a rollercoaster of a 2025 NFL season for the Kansas City Chiefs as they head into their Week 7 game against the Las Vegas Raiders. While they aren’t the Chiefs of past years, they still have Patrick Mahomes under center.
Las Vegas head into this matchup riding positive momentum as they snapped their four-game losing streak with a 20-10 win over the Tennessee Titans on October 12 at Allegiant Stadium.
Regardless of the Titans’ record and current situation, the Silver and Black needed that win. Nonetheless, heading into the AFC West showdown against the Chiefs, former Raiders wide receiver James Jones is issuing a warning to Las Vegas.
“I see a quarterback in Patrick Mahomes playing his best football probably in the last couple years to be honest with you,” Jones said on the latest edition of “Upon Further Review.” “Even though they still have been in Super Bowls and they’ve been winning a lot of football games, the last two years, Patrick Mahomes has not played lights out and played extremely good football.
“You turn on the tape on Patrick Mahomes this year and Patrick Mahomes is back to Patrick Mahomes. He is playing lights out. He’s making plays with his arms; he’s getting outside the pocket. He’s making plays with his legs; he’s rushing [for] touchdowns; he’s making everybody on the field better. What we’re used to seeing. Him and Andy Reid, we all know, and Travis Kelce is going to be a tough outing for our defense.”
How Can the Raiders Stop Chiefs’ Patrick Mahomes
Stopping Patrick Mahomes is easier said than done. Nonetheless, it can be done. Jones noted the formula that the Raiders need to follow if they want to come away with a victory over Kansas City.
“The best thing we can do is get pressure on him,“ Jones added. “That is what we’re going to have to do to get pressure on him. And that’s going to be hard. This is not going to be easy.
“It’s going to be hard, but it can be done. This is a division opponent we are familiar with. So, we got to get some pressure on him. But the Kansas City Chiefs right now are playing really good football, especially Patrick Mahomes.”
Raiders’ Maxx Crosby Talks Stopping Chiefs’ Offense
One of the players tasked with putting pressure on Patrick Mahomes is Raiders star Maxx Crosby. Ahead of the game against the Kansas City Chiefs, Crosby appeared on the latest episode of “The Silver and Black Show,“ where he was asked about Mahomes and what the defense needs to watch out for.
“He’s one of the greatest to do it, period,“ Crosby said. “And so when you’re going against a guy like that, he provides a lot of challenges in different ways. Just watching the film this year, he’s been a little more aggressive, tucking the ball and running it. It’s something that he’s typically done in the playoffs more, but he’s doing it now, even in the regular season, and it makes it harder on defenses and stresses them out even more.
“We already knew he’s a good athlete, but when he really decides to take off, you have to worry not only about coordinating the pass rush, but also getting him on the ground and making sure everyone’s staying locked in on the back end because he’s going to scramble to make plays. He’s going to take off and do the whole nine.”
