Raiders’ Maxx Crosby Gets Honest About Patrick Mahomes

The Las Vegas Raiders snapped their four-game losing streak with a 20-10 win over the Tennessee Titans on October 12 at Allegiant Stadium. The victory, against one of the NFL’s struggling teams, came at the perfect time ahead of their Week 7 showdown with the Kansas City Chiefs.

Kansas City might not seem as dominant as in previous seasons, but they’re still a tough team to face. Nonetheless, the Silver and Black needed to build positive momentum heading into this matchup with their win over the Titans in Week 6.

Ahead of the game against the Chiefs, Raiders star Maxx Crosby was on the latest episode of “The Silver and Black Show,” and one of the questions he received was about Patrick Mahomes and what the defense needs to look out for.

“He’s one of the greatest to do it, period,” Crosby said. “And so when you’re going against a guy like that, he provides a lot of challenges in different ways. Just watching the film this year, he’s been a little more aggressive, tucking the ball and running it. It’s something that he’s typically done in the playoffs more, but he’s doing it now, even in the regular season, and it makes it harder on defenses and stresses them out even more.

“We already knew he’s a good athlete, but when he really decides to take off, you have to worry not only about coordinating the pass rush, but also getting him on the ground and making sure everyone’s staying locked in on the back end because he’s going to scramble to make plays. He’s going to take off and do the whole nine.”

Maxx Crosby Talks Relationship With Patrick Mahomes

While talking about what the Raiders defense needs to be aware of against the Chiefs’ star, Crosby also put the spotlight on the relationship that he shares with Mahomes.

“He’s an incredible competitor, an incredible player, and I feel like we have a special relationship because we’re very similar in many ways when it comes to being obsessed with winning and that competitive nature where you refuse to lose,” Crosby added. “He’s one of those guys, so every time we see each other, we’re both on that same page for sure.”

Pete Carroll Also Shares Words About Patrick Mahomes

Furthermore, Crosby isn’t the only one talking about Mahomes this week. Raiders head coach Pete Carroll expressed how important it is to ensure the Chiefs’ signal-caller is a non-factor in the game.

“It’s a real team effort,” Carroll said on the October 14 edition of “1 on 1.” “There’s no one way to do it. He’s just looking for where you give him a little crease, and he’s gone, you know? He looks quick to throw the football, but if it ain’t there, he’s going. And he knows there’s a whole other dimension to his game once he gets on the move — not just running, but of course throwing.

“He’s running for more yards probably than he ever has. He’s really on fire. I think he’s the leading rusher at this time, which is enormous for this deep end of the season. So, we have to account for him in many opportunities to keep him from owning the football game.”
