The Las Vegas Raiders had a very busy offseason by making major changes across the organization by hiring Super Bowl winning head coach Pete Carroll and trading for veteran QB Geno Smith.
Yet, one NFL writer believes the Raiders could be one of the best fits remaining for a seven-time Pro Bowl defender who has been rumored to be available via trade ahead of the 2025 NFL season.
Las Vegas Raiders Named a Top Landing Spot for CB Jalen Ramsey
Jacob Camenker of USA Today recently delved into the top landing spots for a potential trade involving Miami Dolphins CB Jalen Ramsey entering the 2025 NFL season, where the Las Vegas Raiders were among the teams mentioned.
Camenker wrote, “The Raiders may not be a top contender like the Rams, but they also lack a true No. 1 cornerback. They invested a third-round pick in raw, converted receiver Darien Porter to play the position but could stand to find a proven upgrade over the trio of Eric Stokes, Jakorian Bennett and Decamerion Richardson, who are expected to challenge for playing time on the outside this season.”
Ramsey is coming off of a season where registered 60 total tackles, 11 passes defensed, and two interceptions with the Miami Dolphins.
Unfortunately, this felt like a bit of a down year for Ramsey — who failed to be named to the Pro Bowl for the first time since the 2016 NFL season, which was his rookie year.
The Raiders currently have a young secondary devoid of a true superstar and could use a veteran presence who has experience shadowing an opposing team’s top option in the passing game to help retool this group under new head coach Pete Carroll.
Camenker added, “Ramsey would provide the Raiders with that. Pete Carroll would likely be interested in acquiring a bigger-bodied, physical cornerback to help him try to recreate the “Legion of Boom” in Las Vegas.”
Ramsey’s physical style of play and alignment versatility could help provide this secondary with a moveable chess piece in this revamped defense in 2025.
Ramsay would join free agent addition Eric Stokes, nickelback Darnay Holmes, and rookie Darien Porter if the Raiders managed to swing a deal with the Dolphins ahead of the upcoming season.
Could the Raiders Consider Other Veteran DB Options in Free Agency?
Ramsey hasn’t been the only defensive back tied to joining the Raiders ahead the upcoming season with former All-Pro Justin Simmons being named by Cody Benjamin of CBS Sports as a potential option for Las Vegas in 2025.
Benjamin wrote, “Linked to big-name cover men like Jaire Alexander and Jalen Ramsey thanks to their dearth of proven options at cornerback, the Raiders could just as easily use a savvy starter on the back end under the defensively minded Pete Carroll. Besides possessing plenty of 2025 salary cap space to add help, the Raiders also employ pass game coordinator Joe Woods, who served as Simmons’ first defensive backs coach in Denver.”
Simmons could push Isaiah Pola-Mao for a full-time role alongside Jeremy Chinn, but would likely have to do so on a one-year prove it deal to make sense for the Raiders in 2025.
