The Los Angeles Rams re-signed left tackle Alaric Jackson to a three-year, $57 million extension to solidify their offensive line for the future.
Jackson was diagnosed with blood clots before the start of training camp. The left tackle has been doing individual drills at training camp and was not placed on the physically unable to perform (PUP) list by the Rams.
The chances of Jackson returning for the start of the regular season are there, but the Rams have to prepare to be without him.
Before it was revealed that Jackson is dealing with blood clots, Los Angeles signed former Pro Bowl offensive lineman DJ Humphries to a one-year, $2.5 million contract. Bleacher Report’s Kristopher Knox lists Humphries as an X-factor for the Rams
“For the Los Angeles Rams, a lot will hinge on the health of quarterback Matthew Stafford. When he’s at his best, the Rams are legitimate NFC contenders, but he missed a good chunk of training camp with a back injury,” Kay wrote for B/R. “Keeping Stafford healthy and upright will be critical to Los Angeles’ success, which makes backup offensive tackle D.J. Humphries a major X-factor.”
“Signed in mid-June, Humphries is expected to start at left tackle while regular starter Alaric Jackson recovers from blood clots.”
Humphries last played for the Kansas City Chiefs, appearing in two games.
DJ Humphries Impressing The Coaching Staff

DJ Humphries earned a Pro Bowl nod with the Arizona Cardinals in the 2021-22 season and faced off against the Los Angeles Rams numerous times throughout his career.
“I’ve unfortunately, or fortunately, gone up against [Humphries] a lot over the last six, seven years. So I’ve always respected his game. But I didn’t know him personally until we brought him in,” Rams offensive coordinator Mike LaFleur said, via Rams Wire. “We got him so late in the summer, I didn’t really know what to expect. But just in these past few days, it’s clear, he’s a professional. A real pro. It’s awesome to have him.”
“Guys like him, they raise the standard. He’s been through it. He gets it. That matters.”
Now on the Rams, Humphries has the opportunity to revitalize his career after a lack of playing time in KC. Under the guidance of McVay, Humphries could return to his Pro Bowl level and continue his career.
Protecting The Quarterback

Starting quarterback Matthew Stafford has been dealing with a back injury and has not been training with the team so far.
Head coach Sean McVay has stated that Stafford would be playing if it were week one currently.
Since DJ Humphries might start in place of Jackson at the beginning of the season, protecting Stafford has become vital for the team moving forward.
A blindside sack could force Stafford out for the rest of the season and could end the Rams’ season.
