Rams 2025 Second-Round Draft Pick Predicted to Be Bust

The Los Angeles Rams traded away their first-round pick in the 2025 NFL Draft to the Atlanta Falcons in exchange for the 46th overall pick and a seventh-round pick in the same year’s draft.

With their first selection of the draft on day two, the Rams selected tight end Terrance Ferugson out of Oregon.

Bleacher Report’s Kristopher Knox believes the new Los Angeles tight end will be a “bust” in his first season in the City of Angels.

“Rams fans may want to temper expectations for rookie tight end Terrance Ferguson. The Oregon product was L.A.’s top draft choice after the team traded out of Round 1. However, the Rams still have Tyler Higbee and Colby Parkinson on the depth chart,” Knox wrote for B/R.

“And with Puka Nacua and Davante Adams set to serve as Matthew Stafford’s top two options, there may be limited targets to split between L.A.’s tight ends.”

Terrance Ferguson Could Be Rams TE for the Future

While Terrance Ferguson may be the third option in his rookie season in Los Angeles, Knox believes the former Oregon Duck product will be used in the future. Here’s what he said:

“[This] doesn’t mean that Ferguson won’t eventually become a very good pass-catching tight end in Los Angeles. Like a few other players on this list, however, he may fall well short of first-year expectations.”

LA Rams head coach McVay spoke to Adam Schein of Mad Dog Sports Radio about landing Ferguson after trading out the first.

“For us to be able to go back, still get a player that we would’ve felt good with earlier in terms of where we would’ve drafted him, was a really big deal,” he said, via Rams Wire. “But it worked out really well and we were super excited about being able to come away with Terrance Ferguson, who we have big plans for.”

McVay said he was impressed with what he had seen from Ferguson in organized team activities (OTAs).

“Terrance has been good,” McVay told reporters after practice. “Really, today was the first day that we could do 11-on-11. These guys got here a couple weeks ago, seen a guy that’s been really attentive in meetings, got a really good feel.”

Tyler Higbee, Los Angeles Rams

Terrance Ferguson mentioned during OTAs that veteran Tyler Higbee has been the player who has “poured” most into him since joining the team.

“‘Higs’ is someone who jumps right off the bat. I’d say all the tight ends, though, have really leaned in and really helped me out with whether it’s the playbook, little subtle things…” Ferugson told reporters (22:48).

“Just be willing to pour into a young guy like me. So, I’d say ‘Higs’ has been especially big.”

Higbee, who played for the Rams his whole career, is 32 years old compared to the younger TEs in Parkinson and Ferguson.

Higbee also missed the majority of last season before returning to the team at the latter end of the year due to a torn ACL and MCL. If those injuries stunted the longtime Ram, Ferguson could receive more playing time.
