The Los Angeles Rams shook up their roster ahead of their Week 9 tilt against the New Orleans Saints, adding players on both sides of the ball in A.J. Green and Ronnie Rivers.
Both players have experience at the NFL level, potentially providing a greater opportunity for the Rams to maintain if they are forced into action. One of them has a greater chance of that happening than the other.
At any rate, the Rams head into a matchup against the 1-7 Saints with Green and Rivers in tow.
Rams Add Former Browns UDFA DB A.J. Green Amid Super Bowl Champion’s Injury

The Rams first signed Green in November 2024, and they brought him back for 2025, ultimately signing him to their practice squad. Green has already appeared in one game for the Rams this season, playing four special teams snaps in Week 6 against the Baltimore Ravens.
Green has played in 35 games, starting two, in his career. He has 40 total tackles, 7 pass deflections, 2 interceptions, and 2 fumble recoveries.
Green did not play in a regular-season game in 2024.
Last time, Green was a depth option with the Rams missing Ahkello Witherspoon in the secondary. This time, Green gets the call-up in a potential signal that Darious Williams will indeed miss this contest due to a shoulder injury.
Rams head coach Sean McVay painted a bleak picture for Williams, who was inactive for the regular-season opener, but has re-assumed a starting role in recent weeks.

McVay expects Williams, a member of the Rams’ Super Bowl team in 2021, to be a short-term absentee. McVay also touted recent trade acquisition Roger McCreary, citing his versatility and confirming he will play on Sunday.
He did not specify who they would call up, but did express confidence in whomever it was.
“He’ll [Williams] be doubtful for the game. He’s done a great job being able to get some individual. The lat’s bothering him a little bit, and it’s more likely than not that he won’t be able to play. But you do have confidence in the guys that we’re going to be able to ask to step up. If we do do that, we’ll probably flex somebody up from our practice squad. I won’t get into who that would be for us,” McVay told reporters on October 31.
“I think Roger McCreary’s done a great job, quickly acclimating himself, and he’ll be active for the game as well.”
Green gets the nod, notably following the release of fellow veteran Tre Brown.
Rams Bring Back Ronnie Rivers
GettyRonnie Rivers #30 of the Los Angeles Rams warms up before facing the Arizona Cardinals.
The Rams have utilized Rivers, a California native and Fresno State alum, frequently. All 35 of his games played, including two starts, have come with the organization.
The son of former Detroit Lions and Atlanta Falcons tailback Ron Rivers, 249 yards on 63 carries in his career. Rivers has made one appearance for the Rams this season, logging one offensive snap and nine on special teams in Week 7 against the Jacksonville Jaguars.
LA is healthy at running back, per their injury report, so Rivers’ role is likely on special teams.
The Rams have a chance to add a win over a downtrodden opponent in the Saints, with the trade deadline looming on November 4 at 4 p.m. ET.
