The Los Angeles Rams had an opportunity to take the lead against the San Francisco 49ers on Thursday Night Football with less than two minutes in the game remaining.
The Rams called a running play inside the 49ers‘ five-yard line, handing the ball off to running back Kyren Williams, who was stripped of the ball at the one-yard line by 49er rookie defensive tackle Alfred Collins and recovered by the defense.
If Williams had crossed the goalline, the Rams would have been up 27-23 with around a minute left in the game, with San Fran only having one time out left.
“Sucks,” Williams said after the loss to a divisional rival. “For me, I just got to hold on to the ball. I feel like I let the team down at the one-yard line, you know, not securing the one thing that matters: scoring the touchdown. I put this all on me, honestly and knowing that I got to be better.”
Los Angeles had all three timeouts remaining in the game and was able to stop the NFC West rival from getting a first down, forcing them to punt. The offense was able to get downfield and tie the game with a 48-yard field goal by Joshua Karty with two seconds left on the clock, forcing overtime.
Kyren Williams On Overtime

The Los Angeles Rams won the coin toss heading into overtime and decided to defer the ball.
The defense was able to do its part and forced the 49ers to go for a field goal, which was successfully kicked through the uprights, giving San Fran a 26-23 lead.
Matthew Stafford and the offense were able to drive downfield into the 49ers‘ territory before being faced with a fourth-and-one situation. Instead of kicking the field goal, as head coach Sean McVay later said he should have done in hindsight, the Rams ran the ball but failed to get the first down.
“I just need to keep my legs driving, run behind [the offensive line] and get that yard that we need,” Kyren Williams said on not getting the first down.
McVay said that there was no thought of kicking the field goal as the team was aiming for the win.
Going Forward

Kyren Williams was having one of his better performances of the 2025 season on Thursday Night.
The former Notre Dame Fighting Irish had 65 rushing yards, but was more effective in the pass game, hauling in 66 yards and two touchdown catches.
“You got to fight through adversity,” Williams said. “When times like this [occur], it’s not time to shy away, it’s not time to run away. It’s time to embrace and be better for it.
“Like I said, gotta get back to work and continue to keep trusting and believing…”
The Rams will have a few days of rest before getting ready for Week 6.
