Sean McVay and the Los Angeles Rams are still pushing toward the playoffs and, they hope, another Super Bowl berth, but their future remains a source of intrigue around the league. That is because the Rams hold two first-round picks in the 2026 draft and have some roster needs.
A new projection would see the Rams utilize both picks. Perhaps surprisingly, neither would go toward a quarterback of the future in the hypothetical scenario.
Instead, the Rams would gear up for another run with 2025 MVP candidate Matthew Stafford.
Sean McVay, Rams Predicted to Land Replacement for Rob Havenstein

Much of the story around the Rams this past offseason, specifically during the draft, was about their trade out of the first round of the 2025 draft with the Atlanta Falcons. It seemingly set the stage for them to address their quarterback situation beyond Stafford during the 2026 cycle.
Instead, The Athleticâs Dan Brugler projects the Rams will miss out on one QB (Oregonâs Dante Moore). They would pass on another (Ty Simpson of Alabama).
Brugler projects the Rams to select Utahâs Spencer Fano with their first pick in 2026.
âWith Rob Havenstein likely nearing the end of his career, the Rams might be in the right tackle market this offseason,â Brugler wrote on December 3. âThe answer might already be on the roster should Warren McClendon finish this season strong, but if not, Fano would be a great fit. He is an athletic big man with an outstanding play demeanor.â
Havenstein was a member of the Ramsâ Super Bowl team in 2021, one of several still on the roster. However, he is also on injured reserve due to an accumulation of injuries this season. The Rams hope he can return for the end of the campaign/postseason.
Brugler has the Rams using the No. 9 pick to select Fano, whose listed measurements are 6-foot-6 and over 300 pounds. That is the pick the Rams received in the trade with the Falcons.
The Draft Network gave Fano a first-round grade and said that he has âPro Bowl caliberâ talent.
âHeâs the kind of offensive lineman you plug in for 10 years and never look back,â The Draft Network wrote. âIf he makes the move to center and maintains his level of play, thereâs a strong case he could become one of the best center prospects weâve seen in a long time. Regardless of where he lines up, one thing is clear: I want this guy on my team.â
The decisions Brugler made for McVayâs Rams speak volumes about the anticipated crop of quarterbacks. They would also fill various roster needs for the Rams.
Mock Draft Sees Rams Address Long-Standing Roster Issue
GettyAvieon Terrell #20 of the Clemson Tigers celebrates against the SMU Mustangs.
Brugler projected McVay and the Rams would take Clemsonâs Avieon Terrell with their second first-round pick in 2026, bolstering a weak spot on their roster.
According to the analyst, it would be an overdue move.
Terrell is the younger brother of Falcons corner and 2021 Second Team All-Pro A.J. Terrell. Brugler projected him to the Rams with the No. 29 overall pick. He noted that âThe Rams havenât used a top-75 pick on a cornerback in a decade â and it shows.
âTerrell ⦠loves to mix things up with receivers and be disruptive (eight forced fumbles in three seasons at Clemson). He has a âHoney Badgerâ [Tyrann Mathieu] aura to him.â
The Rams have seen Cobie Durant emerge and found lightning in a bottle with former Washington Commanders first-round pick Emmanuel Forbes this season. But they are thin, having navigated injury issues with Ahkello Witherspoon.
They still have Super Bowl champion Darious Williams, and they reunited with Derion Kendrick.
However, Terrell would solidify a spot that McVay and the Rams faced questions about early in the season and have since piecemealed together with moves like trading for Roger McCreary (IR).
