Rams QB Matthew Stafford Aiming to Break Tom Brady Record vs. Panthers

The Los Angeles Rams have been on a roll as of late, and as we begin to enter the homestretch of the 2025 campaign, they very well may be the most dangerous team in the league. Everything is coming together at the right time for the Rams, and much of that is due to the stellar play of Matthew Stafford at quarterback.

Throughout his career, Stafford has generally been considered one of the top quarterbacks in the league, but in his age-37 season, he very well may be putting together the best campaign of his career. Stafford appears to be the frontrunner for the MVP Award this season, and in Week 13, he will have a shot to break a prestigious record set by none other than Tom Brady.

The No. 1 overall pick in the 2009 NFL Draft, Stafford struggled to find much team success during his 12 years with the Detroit Lions. That changed in 2021 when he was traded to the Rams, as he immediately led the team to victory in Super Bowl LVI. Los Angeles hasn’t managed to reach those heights again since that season, but they appear to have a great shot at doing so in 2025.

Despite Stafford’s consistent excellence throughout his career, he doesn’t have many individual accolades to show for it. He’s only been a Pro Bowler twice, and he won the Comeback Player of the Year Award in 2011. That is going to change this season, as Stafford has been one of the most efficient quarterbacks in the league this season. Through 11 games, Los Angeles’ star passer has thrown for 2,830 yards and a league-leading 30 touchdowns.

Perhaps more importantly, Stafford simply has refused to turn the ball over this season, as he has thrown just two interceptions to his 30 touchdowns. In the process, he’s put himself on the verge of breaking a prestigious record set by Brady for the most consecutive touchdown passes without an interception. Stafford is tied with Brady at 27 touchdowns, and he will look to break that mark on Sunday against the Carolina Panthers.

“Stafford has a chance Sunday to break the NFL’s all-time record for most consecutive touchdown passes without an interception; he currently is tied with Tom Brady, who threw 27 straight TD passes without an interception in 2010-’11,” Adam Schefter of ESPN shared in a post on X.

The MVP race in 2025 has been a bit strange. Typical frontrunners, such as Lamar Jackson, Josh Allen, and Patrick Mahomes, aren’t really in the discussion. Instead, Stafford and New England Patriots‘ star Drake Maye are leading the conversation, with Daniel Jones of the Indianapolis Colts also factoring into the mix. Non-quarterbacks like Jones’ teammate, Jonathan Taylor, and Seattle Seahawks wide receiver Jaxon Smith-Nijgba also could receive some consideration.

If Stafford can keep up his recent torrid pace, though, there’s a decent chance he will run away with this award. Maye still has a bye week in his schedule, and Jones has cooled off after a scorching hot start to the season. As a result, Stafford appears to be in cruise control, and he will look to continue his winning ways in Week 13 by guiding L.A. to a victory over Carolina.
