Rams Sign Eyebrow-Raising Athlete Before Showdown Against Panthers

Head coach Sean McVay and the Los Angeles Rams continue to find ways to tweak their roster amid their strong campaign, with rookie Wyatt Bowles the latest to get ensnared in the activity.

LA is heading into a Week 13 road game against the Carolina Panthers.

Bowles is a familiar face for the Rams and one who has had an eventful journey with the organization in a short time.

“LA Rams Roster Moves,” the PR team posted on X on November 25, addressing that they “Signed to Practice Squad OL Wyatt Bowles.”

The news comes days after the Rams added reserve offensive tackle David Quessenberry to the injury report with a groin issue ahead of facing the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on “Sunday Night Football” in Week 12.

Starting right tackle Rob Havenstein is on injured reserve with multiple ailments, while the Rams have leaned on Warren McClendon in his absence.

LA has D.J. Humphries on the roster, who was signed amid Alaric Jackson’s blood clot scare.

Jackson is healthy, and Humphries has experience at both tackle spots. The Rams list second-year undrafted free agent Justin Dedich behind starting left guard Steve Avila. However, they have an opening behind Kevin Dotson on the right side where Bowles could factor in.

Current backup and former starting center Beaux Limmer is also an option. The Rams certainly have seen some things in Bowles that they like, or they would not keep bringing him back.

The Rams cut Bowles on November 4, replacing him with two-time Pro Bowler Jake McQuaide.

McQuaide has since taken over long snapper duties from Alex Ward, whom the Rams waived on November 10. They also waived Bowles at the end of the preseason, making this his third stint with the team.

The Rams have been fortunate to avoid the kind of injury woes at guard that they have had at OT or in their secondary, but knowing that Bowles has shown promise helps ease concerns.

Wyatt Bowles Has Drawn Attention With Playing Time

Math Bomb’s Kent Lee Platt noted in April that Bowles Wyatt Bowles, who also logged snaps at center for the Rams during the preseason, “scored a 8.86 RAS out of a possible 10.00. This ranked 199 out of 1730 OG from 1987 to 2025.”

Heading into last season with the Aggies, Bowles raised eyebrows.

AtoZ Sports’ Ryan Roberts noted, “I knew very little about Utah State OG Wyatt Bowles (#60),” Roberts posted on X in July 2024. “I’m starting to learn [eyes looking emoji].”

“Bowles has almost no preseason hype but does carry draftable grades across the NFL. Possessing a pretty clean frame, the Utah State standout does have room for further physical development,” Roberts wrote in August 2024. “More of a linear athlete, Bowles is slightly tight through the hips. He does his best work as a drive and down blocker. There is some nice pop on contact, showing the ability to displace defenders at times.”

Bowles also drew attention with the Rams during his time on the field in the preseason. How Bowles fits into the Rams’ plans at this juncture likely depends on some of his on-again, off-again teammates.
