Ranger Suarez Predicted to Leave Phillies for Archrival in Multi-Year Deal

The Philadelphia Phillies roster could look much different next season due to some key players being free agents.

Ranger Suarez is a free agent and is one of the top left-handed starters available. He’s expected to get a massive deal this offseason. MLB analyst Daniel Curran of JustBaseball named the Atlanta Braves as a top landing spot for Suarez.

“After a season to forget in 2025, the Braves need to retool if they’re looking rebound and once again become a contender in a loaded NL East,” Curran wrote. “Signing Suarez would not only add long-term stability to the rotation. But, it would take a key player from a division rival.

As it currently stands, Atlanta’s rotation is filled with uncertainty: Chris Sale is 37, Spencer Schwellenbach missed three months last year, Hurston Waldrep has 11 big-league starts to his name. Spencer Strider and Reynaldo Lopez also regressed in 2025. Suarez would turn out to be an essential piece of this rotation in the event where the stability he brings is needed.”

Curran predicts Suarez will sign a multi-year deal at $25 million per season and would help solidify the Braves’ rotation.

“If Atlanta wants to recover from last year, this might be a viable way to get back to the postseason,” Curran added.

Suarez was an All-Star in 2024.

Phillies Exec Makes Interesting Comment on Suarez’s Future

Although Suarez has been a massive part of the Phillies‘ rotation, he could walk this offseason.

Phillies’ president of baseball operations, Dave Dombrowski, was asked about the offseason. When asked about pitching, Dombrowski seemingly left off Suarez as he mentioned his top four pitchers.

“Anytime you can throw Wheeler, you can throw Sanchez, you can throw Luzardo, you can throw Nola as your top four, no matter what happens with Suarez, you’re in pretty good shape to move forward,” Dombrowski said on the “Foul Territory” podcast.

It was an intriguing comment, and Dombrowski admitted it will be hard to bring every player back.

“It’s going to be hard to sign all of our players just because there’s so many of them,” Dombrowski said. “And we’re also challenged with some younger players that finally in our system are ready to step in and play for us. …

“It’s going to be a tough winter. We’re going to have to do a lot of balancing. I think we have a chance to still really have a good club because I think we’ll bring some of the guys back. We’ll have financial wherewithal.”

Suarez went 12-8 with a 3.20 ERA in 26 starts last season.

What Will Suarez Get in Free Agency?

Suarez is one of the top free agents available this offseason and will be in line for a massive deal.

The left-hander is named the 11th-best free agent available by ESPN’s Kiley McDonald. He predicts the Phillies’ star will sign a four-year deal worth $92 million, which is $23 million per season.

“There are parallels here with Jordan Montgomery and Eduardo Rodriguez as medium-stuff lefty starters with good feel, bulk innings and postseason experience,” McDonald wrote. “They both landed multiyear deals with AAVs in the low 20s. But Suarez is younger than both and arguably had the best platform year. So four — or possibly five — years (and nine figures) seems reasonable.”

Suarez is a solid No. 3 starter on a World Series contender.
