The Texas Rangers made a strong push to solidify themselves in the American League Wild Card spot, but they have not played well in the last couple of weeks. They were once 0.5 games back of the New York Yankees, but are now 5.5 games back of that final Wild Card spot.
Texas has one of the best rotations in baseball, but its offense has yet to really click for a prolonged period this season. Although September is far from over, the Rangers are already weighing potential offseason moves.
Rangers Predicted to Trade Two-Time All-Star
Adolis Garcia fueled the Texas Rangers’ 2023 World Series run and consistently hits 25 home runs per season. He earned All-Star selections in 2021 and 2023. In 2021, he hit 31 home runs, and he smashed 39 long balls in 2023.
After dipping in production in 2024, he has struggled again this season, making the Guardians likely to consider trading him.
Bleacher Report recently named “10 MLB Stars Most Likely to be Traded,” and Adolis Garcia finds himself on the list:
“Adolis GarcÃa was the hero of Texas’ World Series run in 2023, with 15 RBI and a 1.293 OPS just in that seven-game ALCS showdown with the Houston Astros. But he missed the final two games of the World Series with an oblique injury and just has not been the same since, with a .671 OPS over the past two seasons. Non-tendering him after all he did for them from 2021-23 would be almost cruel, as he does still have 41 home runs and 21 stolen bases since the beginning of last season. But trading him away to save what figures to be around $10M could be in the cards.”
The Rangers are seeing stats this season that fall short of their expectations. He’s hitting .224 with 16 home runs, an OPS+ of 89, and an OPS of well below .700. He strikes out far too much for a middle-of-the-order bat.
Who Could Want Adolis Garcia?
Garcia signed a two-year deal before the 2024 season but is arbitration-eligible after this season. Garcia and the Rangers likely wonât reach an easy decision on his salary, making him a prime trade candidate.
He may not command the same price as a few seasons ago, but his exit velocities and hard-hit percentages remain strong, and his defense has improved in 2025.
The years of him hitting 30 home runs and driving in 100+ runs consistently may be behind him, but that doesn’t mean he isn’t still a serviceable player. His 2.1 bWAR likely stems from his defense, as he has 122 strikeouts in just over 400 at-bats, but it still represents a solid wins above replacement total for a hitter who has clearly regressed offensively.
It’s unclear whether or not the Rangers would seriously consider dealing him, but he was another name that collected trade speculation at this year’s trade deadline.
