Sometimes our buddies from college can it a little too real.
Kind of like what Baltimore Ravens edge rusher Dre’Mont Jones did when he met up with Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow after the Ravens’ 24-0 shutout win over the Bengals in Week 15.
Jones, who played with Burrow at Ohio State, said what everyone already knew to the $275 million superstar.
“Whooped your ass today,” Jones told Burrow with a smile.
Burrow, to his credit, simply patted Jones on the chest and smirked. While everyone may be questioning Burrow’s commitment to the game at this point after last week’s comments, no one has ever accused him of being a bad sport.
Jones was especially bothersome to Burrow and the Bengals, registering a whopping 5 QB hits on his former teammate. The Ravens’ win came just 2 weeks after the Bengals defeated the Ravens, 32-14, in Burrow’s first game since he suffered a turf toe injury in a Week 2 win over the Jacksonville Jaguars.
“Watching BAL vs CIN and just writing Dre’mont Jones‘ name over and over,” ESPN’s Mina Kimes wrote on X on Monday, December 15. “Won with both speed and power and affected Burrow the entire game.”
Burrow Especially Hard on Himself After Loss
While Burrow’s comments last week about not having “fun” playing football have led to wild speculation about whether he might ask for a trade or even just retire from playing after this season, he was much more blunt about how he thought he played against the Ravens.
Burrrow finished 25-of-39 passing for 225 yards, no touchdowns and 2 interceptions, including a 95-yard interception return for a touchdown on an interception by Kyle Van Noy he handed back to safety Alohi Gilman after 10 yards to run the rest of the way.
“No team in the NFL could have won with me at quarterback with how I played today,” Burrow said after the loss to the Ravens.
Jones Could Help Lift Ravens Into Playoffs
Jones, 6-foot-3 and 281 pounds, is having another great season in 2025 despite enduring a change of scenery when he was traded from the Tennessee Titans to the Ravens right before the NFL trade deadline in November.
Jones has 35 tackles, 6.0 sacks, 6 TFL and 21 QB hits this season and is in a unique situation where, if he stays healthy. he’ll wind up playing in 18 NFL games this season because the trade came after Baltimore’s bye week and before he’d gotten his bye week with the Titans.
Either way, Jones’ addition has helped the Ravens go from a 1-5 start to the regular season to evening out their record at 7-7 overall headed into the final 3 games.
“We knew we had (the Bengals) on their heels,” Jones said after the week 15 win. “Just by how they were calling it, how they looked, their demeanor. They didn’t feel lively to me … I felt that play one they weren’t ready to play. It was too cold for them.”
“Dre’mont Jones‘ message to Bengals players after he made a legal hit on Joe Burrow: Stay crying,” Ravens Vault’s Sarah Ellison wrote on X.
