Ravens Get Brutal Injury News on NFL MVP QB Lamar Jackson

If the Baltimore Ravens didn’t think their season could get much worse following a disappointing 1-3 start, well guess again.

NFL Insider Josina Anderson reported on Thursday, October 2, that 2-time NFL MVP quarterback Lamar Jackson will miss at least the next 2 games with a hamstring injury — Week 5 against the Houston Texans and Week 6 against the Los Angeles Rams.

Ravens QB Lamar Jackson (hamstring) is not currently expected to play this Sunday vs the Texans, nor next week vs the Rams (outside of faster healing, which still can be deceptive),” Anderson wrote on her official X account. “The bye week is after that. That’s a good safe window to help better ensure the hamstring issue doesn’t reappear later in the season when it counts more.”

Jackson injured his hamstring in the third quarter of a 37-20 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 4.

Texans Game Already Out the Window

It wasn’t a surprise Jackson was going to miss the game against the Texans, but there had still been the faint hope he would play.

“Ravens QB Lamar Jackson is likely to miss Sunday’s game vs Texans with a hamstring injury, per sources,” The Baltimore Sun’s Brian Wacker wrote on X on September 30.

On October 1, NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport said there was still some faint hope Jackson might not have to miss a start and his injury could be considered “week to week.”

The Ravens are at home for 3 consecutive games sandwiched around a bye in Week 7 — all games where backup Cooper Rush could likely be the starting quarterback.

“Even if Lamar is just out for a few games, it’s hard to see them going anywhere without him,” CBS color commentator and former NFL quarterback Tony Romo said during the Ravens-Chiefs broadcast. “Especially with the way he plays and with a hamstring injury.

Jackson One of Most Unique Talents in NFL History

Statheads, if you can, figure out what the record is for NFL teams who have to play without their future Pro Football Hall of Fame quarterback when he’s in his prime.

We’ll take a wild guess to say it’s not very good. We know for the Ravens it isn’t, at least. Since 2018, they’re 4-10 without Jackson starting, who almost certainly will wind up with a bust in Canton one day.

According to the Pro Football Reference Hall of Fame Monitor (HOFm), Jackson’s career rating of 81.40 headed into the 2025 season put him at No. 26 in NFL history for his position. It also put him ahead of 7 Hall of Fame quarterback that includes Warren Moon (71.30), Joe Namath (70.00), Troy Aikman (64.28) and Jim Kelly (59.10).

Jackson is already the NFL’s career passer rating leader (103.0), career quarterback rushing yards leader (6,339), single season rushing leader (1,239 yards) and has the most career games (4) with a perfect passer rating.

From PFR: “The Pro Football Reference Hall of Fame Monitor (HOFm) is a metric designed to estimate a player’s chances of making the Pro Football Hall of Fame using AV, Pro Bowls, All-Pros, championships, and various stat milestones.”
