Ravens Insider Shares Hopeful Prediction on Trade Deadline Plans After Bye

Seven weeks into the 2025 NFL campaign, the Baltimore Ravens find themselves in a spot that nobody predicted them to be in. With a 1-5 record, the Ravens are closer to the bottom of the pack in the standings than the top, which is a stunning turn of events considering the team entered the year with Super Bowl expectations.

And yet, even with that horrific start to the season, Baltimore isn’t dead just yet. Coming out of their bye week in Week 7, the Ravens expect to get several key players back from injury, and their schedule is set to get easier after facing a gauntlet through their first six games. With that in mind, one team insider believes Baltimore could be aggressive at the upcoming trade deadline in an effort to get back into the playoff hunt.

Ravens Predicted to Be Busy Ahead of the Trade Deadline

There are several reasons why the Ravens have crawled out of the gate through their first six games. To this point, their schedule has been arguably the most difficult of any team across the league, as the only team that they’ve played already that is for sure not a playoff contender is the Cleveland Browns (who happen to be the only team Baltimore has beaten this season).

Injuries have also decimated the Ravens on both sides of the ball. Sure, they have played poorly, and injuries can’t be the sole excuse for poor play, but that’s what happens when you are down several Pro Bowl-caliber players. The most damaging of these injuries has involved quarterback Lamar Jackson, who has missed the team’s two most recent games with a hamstring injury.

Jackson and several other players should be back when Baltimore returns to action in Week 8, and with an easier slate of games ahead, that could aid the team’s quest to get back into playoff contention. Assuming the Ravens can do what is expected of them and rattle off a couple of wins over the next few games, one team insider predicted that they will be looking to swing a couple of deals ahead of the trade deadline.

“As long as the Ravens win a couple of games to get back in the mix, there shouldn’t be any handcuffs on the general manager’s ability to bring in outside help,” Jeff Zrebiec wrote for The Athletic.

“They have nearly $15 million of cap room overall, so cap space shouldn’t impede making a deal, nor should trading draft capital. The Ravens could have 10 or 11 draft picks in April, depending on the awarding of compensatory selections. DeCosta doesn’t like trading picks, but he’d be dealing from a position of excess.”

While the Ravens have a 1-5 record that seems insurmountable right now, it’s still pretty early in the 2025 campaign. Baltimore has 11 games left to play, and with the AFC wild-card picture being pretty tightly contested, they still have a decent shot at being able to at least compete for a playoff spot down the stretch of the regular season.

It goes without saying that the team would need to be very nearly perfect during their next 11 games, and as we’ve seen through their first six games, there’s no guarantee that’s possible. Considering how the Ravens entered the season with Super Bowl expectations, though, they have every reason to swing for the fences at the trade deadline, especially with Jackson healthy again. First, they have to get back in the win column in Week 8 when they take on the Chicago Bears.
