The Baltimore Ravens are right in the middle of the training camp and preseason grind, so head coach John Harbaugh pulled an important lever recently when he called on franchise legend Ray Lewis to join practice.
The Ravens enter the 2025 NFL season with legitimate Super Bowl aspirations. They have one of the league’s most talented roster that got even better over the offseason. Quarterback Lamar Jackson is coming off the best season of his impressive career and seems to somehow still be an upward trajectory. Harbaugh remains one of the NFL’s best coaches, and the AFC North still looks like Baltimore’s to lose.
The Ravens have a lot of things going for them right now, and as good as that might seem, it might also create a little bit of complacency. That, paired with the boredom of camp can be a volatile mix, and given how tough Baltimore’s schedule is to start the season, the Ravens can’t afford to be grounded when the games matter.
Enter Lewis.
Ray Lewis Delivers Emotional Message to Ravens
The Pro Football Hall of Famer and greatest player to ever wear the team’s uniform made an appearance at a recent practice. After lending his expertise to the defense during the on-field session, Harbaugh had Lewis address the team after the workout.
Lewis didn’t disappoint.
“What will you do with time? Life goes, life keeps passing and one day, you’re gonna go back and say what did I do with time? I don’t care what you have, it’s how you use what you have,” Lewis exclaimed to the team, as seen in a video posted on the Ravens’ YouTube page. “I don’t care what you have in front of you, it’s the moment that you feel that I have to give everything I got to the preparation so when the moment comes, I soar in that moment.”
Can 2025 Ravens Return Lombardi Trophy to Baltimore?
The theme was clear: Don’t waste the talent you have and take full advantage of the moment that you have to maximize that talent.
Talent is the easiest thing you’ll ever be given, it’s what you do with it that decides your purpose. We talking about a championship, but a championship starts with a mentality of using that facility. If that was me, I’m over there until 9:30 at night because there’s nothing else to do but go to sleep at the crib. If I’m trying to touch glory, if I’m trying to see the top of the mountain. What will you do with time? We don’t have it. Savor the moment.”
Lewis, of course, knows what it takes. He’s the man most responsible for the two Super Bowl wins the Ravens have since moving to Baltimore. He was a Super Bowl MVP. He’s a Hall of Famer. They built a dang statue for the man outside M&T Bank Stadium.
So when someone like him tells you it’s in front of you, you probably ought to listen.
“The game fades, bro,” he finished, “but what doesn’t fade is the day you hoist the Lombardi as a champion and know the injuries, and know the doubts, and know the falls we went through and we found a way to do it. That’s what champions do.”
No team enters the NFL season with shorter Super Bowl odds than the Ravens, who are co-favorites with Buffalo at 6-1 at DraftKings Sportsbook.
