It’s starting to look like a lost season for the Baltimore Ravens, who dropped to 1-5 with a 17-9 loss to the Los Angeles Rams in Week 6.
The promise of being Super Bowl contenders before the year is entirely out the window.
The end result seems like it could be the Ravens becoming sellers ahead of the NFL trade deadline on November 4. The most popular targets on the Ravens for teams that are buyers are going to be running back Derrick Henry and tight end Mark Andrews.
What the Ravens might get back for those 2 could set the Ravens up to make sure 2026 isn’t a lost season as well.
The Ringer’s Bill Simmons proposed one trade for Henry that might actually be feasible — sending him to the New England Patriots in exchange for a 2026 second round pick and running back Rhamondre Stevenson.
“Can I start the rumor of Derrick Henry to the Patriots” Simmons said on The Bill Simmons Podcast on October 12. “What pick would get their attention? Like, our second? What if it’s our second and Rhamondre?”
Patriots, Henry Seem Like Natural Fit
The reasons the Patriots might be willing to give up a lot for Henry are pretty clear.
Henry played for current Patriots head coach Mike Vrabel on the Tennessee Titans from 2018 to 2023.
In 2020, Henry became one of just 9 players in NFL history to rush for over 2,000 yards in a single season and was named NFL Offensive Player of the Year.
The Ravens signed Henry to a 2-year, $30 million contract extension on May 14 after he finished second in the NFL with 1,921 rushing yards in 2024 and led the NFL with 16 rushing touchdowns.
Henry’s current contract runs through 2027 and he will have approximately $104.4 million in career earnings when it ends.
“Since gashing the Buffalo Bills for 169 yards in Week 1, Henry has tallied 50 or fewer rushing yards in every game,” Bleacher Report’s Kristopher Knox wrote on October 7. “While benching Henry wouldn’t really solve any of Baltimore’s offensive issues, moving him ahead of the trade deadline could make a ton of sense. The 31-year-old would be more valuable on a championship-caliber roster, and the Ravens could get out from under the two-year, $30 million extension he signed during the offseason.”
Young Talent Makes Stevenson Expendable
One reason the Patriots might be willing to part ways with Stevenson is that a 10-year veteran like Henry might be a better pairing in the backfield with second year quarterback Drake Maye and rookie TreVeyon Henderson.
Stevenson was a 2021 fourth round pick (No. 127 overall) by the Patriots. He rushed for over 1,000 yards in 2022 on the way to a career high 1,436 yards of total offense.
The Patriots saw enough in Stevenson to sign him to a 4-year, $36 million contract extension before the 2024 season. He responded with 969 yards of total offense and a career high 8 touchdowns in what proved to be a lost season — the Patriots went 4-13 and head coach Jerod Mayo was fired.
In 2025 under Vrabel, the Patriots are off to a surprising 4-2 start.
Stevenson leads the team with 157 rushing yards and 2 touchdowns but is averaging just 3.1 yards per carry.
