Real Madrid are looking to bolster their defensive options with a move for Tottenham’s vice-captain Cristian Romero, according to reports.

Fresh off their Champions League success, the Spanish giants have moved quickly to strengthen their squad again over the summer.

Kylian Mbappe and Brazilian prospect Endrick will both have moves confirmed over the summer to supplement an attacking line that already boasts the likes of Jude Bellingham and Vinicius Junior.

However, Carlo Ancelotti’s side are now turning their attention to their defensive options, especially with club captain Nacho set to depart in the coming months.

Real have already registered an interest in exciting young Lille defender Leny Yoro but face a battle on their hands for the 19-year-old, who is also wanted by Manchester United.

Should the Spanish club favour a move for a more experienced centre-back, EPSN Argentina reports that the club will look to sign Romero from Tottenham.

The Argentine, who signed from Atalanta in 2021, made 33 Premier League appearances last year and has become an integral part of Ange Postecoglou’s side.

The 25-year-old still has three years left on his contract, with the club likely to demand an exorbitant fee to let go of one of their key players this summer.

Tottenham are also planning an active summer window as they plot to build on the promising first season under Postecoglou but also address issues that saw the side’s form taper off towards the back half of the campaign.

The club have already renewed the loan deal with RB Leipzig for Timo Werner for another 12 months with the same buy clause still inserted into the deal.

The club are also planning to bring in a star striker, while Chelsea midfielder Connor Gallagher is a midfielder of interest.

A number of players may be sold to fund moves, with Richarlison, Emerson Royal and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg all facing uncertain futures at the club.
