Things are going well for the Detroit Red Wings right now. After winning each of their last two games, the Red Wings are now at the top of the Atlantic Division standings with a 16-11-3 record.
With the Red Wings looking to snap their nine-year playoff drought, it is certainly encouraging that they are currently in first place in the Atlantic Division. Yet, the Atlantic is also incredibly packed, as the Tampa Bay Lightning and Boston Bruins are only one point behind them. Meanwhile, the Montreal Canadiens are two points behind Detroit, and the Maple Leafs are three points behind the Red Wings. With all of this, the Red Wings need to stay hot.
With the Red Wings being in such a competitive division, it would not be surprising if they look to make a big move before the 2026 NHL trade deadline passes. This is especially so when noting that they have over $11 million of cap space to work with. Thus, they are in a good position to make a splash.
When looking at trade candidates around the NHL, Calgary Flames forward Nazem Kadri stands out big time. If the Red Wings acquired the 35-year-old, he could be the final piece that helps them officially break their playoff drought.
Because of this, we here at Heavy Sports have a trade proposal that has the Red Wings acquiring Kadri in a major swap with the Flames.
Red Wings Get:
- Nazem Kadri
Flames Get:
- 2026 First-Round Pick (Top 10 Protected)
- Jonatan Berggren
- Dmitri Buchelnikov
Nazem Kadri Is a Top Trade Candidate With the Flames Struggling
With the Flames being among the worst teams in the NHL this season, questions about Kadri’s future in Calgary continue to come up. With the Flames retooling, the veteran forward has the potential to be a very good trade chip for them.
Due to this, Kadri was recently featured on NHL insider Nick Kypreos’ latest trade board for Sportsnet.
“No matter what we hear about Calgary being unwilling to move Kadri, the fact is the player might end up wanting out,” Kypreos wrote. “Kadri loves Calgary, but he loves winning more and wants to chase another Stanley Cup before he retires.”
If Kadri ends up wanting a change of scenery and to play for a top team, the Red Wings should be working the phones to try to land him.
Kadri Would Bolster Red Wings’ Top Six
When looking at the Red Wings’ roster, it is clear that they could use an upgrade at their second-line center spot. If the Red Wings brought in Kadri, he would provide them with just that, as he is still a very impactful player at this stage of his career.
Kadri would have the potential to make some real magic playing on a line with Red Wings stars Alex DeBrincat and Patrick Kane. Furthermore, he would also give the Red Wings another skilled player to work with for their power play.
In 31 games so far this season with the Flames, Kadri has recorded six goals, 20 assists, and 26 points. This is after he scored a career-high 35 goals and posted 67 points in 82 games this past season with Calgary.
