The Detroit Red Wings kicked off their 2025-26 season against the Montreal Canadiens on Thursday night. However, the Red Wings certainly did not get the results they had hoped for in the matchup. This is because the Red Wings lost to the Canadiens by a 5-1 final score.
With the Red Wings looking to break their nine-year playoff drought, starting the season with a blowout loss like this is far less than ideal. Now, they will be aiming to bounce back when they take on the Toronto Maple Leafs on Saturday night.
Yet, when looking at Detroit’s current roster, there is no question that they could use another impactful winger. Acquiring one could be exactly what helps the Red Wings take that next step and become a playoff team again. According to PuckPedia, the Red Wings also have just under $11 million, so they are in a financial position to make a notable move.
With the Red Wings needing another skilled winger, one player who they should seriously consider reuniting with is Chicago Blackhawks forward Tyler Bertuzzi. He thrived during his time in Detroit and would boost their roster if acquired.
Because of this, we here at Heavy Sports have a trade proposal that has Chicago sending Bertuzzi back to Detroit.
Red Wings Get:
- Tyler Bertuzzi
Blackhawks Get:
- 2026 Second-Round Pick
- 2027 Fourth-Round Pick
- Amadeus Lombardi
Bertuzzi Would Give Red Wings’ Forward Group Big Boost
If the Red Wings acquired Bertuzzi, he would undoubtedly improve their current top six. When looking at a potential specific fit for Bertuzzi in Detroit’s lineup, he could be a perfect fit on their first line with Dylan Larkin and Lucas Raymond. Bertuzzi had excellent chemistry with Larkin during his time with the Red Wings, so reuniting these two could benefit Detroit tremendously.
Due to his offensive skill, Bertuzzi would give Detroit’s power play another very good option to work with. Furthermore, Bertuzzi would also provide the Red Wings’ top six with more grit, which is never a bad thing for a playoff-hopeful club to have.
Bertuzzi has also had a nice start to the 2025-26 season with the Blackhawks, recording two assists in two games. He also had plenty of success as a Red Wing, as he recorded at least 21 goals and 47 points three times with Detroit. This included him setting career highs with 30 goals, 32 assists, and 62 points in 68 games with the Red Wings in 2021-22.
Why Red Wings Could Land Bertuzzi With This Trade Offer
With the Blackhawks rebuilding and Bertuzzi being 30 years old, they could be willing to move him for the right offer. Detroit offering their 2026 second-round pick, 2027 fourth-round pick, and Lombardi could be enough to land Bertuzzi.
With the second-round and fourth-round picks, the Blackhawks would get the opportunity to add to their prospect pool. This could intrigue the Blackhawks, as they are still very much rebuilding.
As for Lombardi, the Blackhawks would be adding a promising forward prospect to their system. In 44 AHL games last season with the Grand Rapids Griffins, Lombardi had 19 goals, 21 assists, and 40 points. He also recorded 45 goals and 102 points in 67 games with the OHL’s Flint Firebirds in 2022-23. Thus, he has offensive upside and would be a solid prospect for Chicago to bring in.
