With the No. 1 overall pick, the Tennessee Titans selected Cam Ward. Ward played five-years of fantastic football in college, gaining everyone’s attention with his standout senior season in Miami.
It’s no secret that Micah Parsons has been in the news recently. After requesting a trade from the Dallas Cowboys, Titans fans did some digging to look back on his quotes of Ward.
Looking Back on Micah Parsons Glowing Remarks About Cam Ward From the Draft
After being selected at No. 1 overall, Parsons compared Ward to a standout quarterback, “I love it. I think this is what the Tennessee Titans need. My comp is Joe Burrow.”
That may be the one and only time Ward has ever been compared to Joe Burrow, but it’s incredibly high praise. Burrow made a Super Bowl appearance just two years into his NFL career. While the odds are certainly stacked against Ward, anything is possible.

“If you watch that Miami film, there have been games where their defense gave up 25+ points per game. They’ve been playing from behind, but I’ve never seen a college quarterback as cool, calm, and collected. He’s able to make throws, he’s gutsy, he trusts his arm,” Parsons added.
He continued, “He was able to come back and win those games, which you don’t see a lot in college. Most guys will shut down, they get frustrated and slam the ball. This guy gets it back together. I think that’s the type of guy you take at No. 1. I love the pick.”
Knowing what Parsons said about Ward’s time in college, the Burrow comparison makes complete sense. Ward will no longer have a Cincinnati Bengals style defense as the Titans were ranked No. 2 last season.
Parsons Praise Ward on his Podcast Ahead of the Draft
On an episode of “The Edge with Micah Parsons”, he gave his flowers to the Titans rookie quarterback. Parsons highlighted his, “poise, determination, relentless attitude of teammates and expecting more.”

Parsons continued, “Mind you, I have never met Cam Ward a day in my life. But from what I see on the football field, where you talk about a quarterback who I want on my team, it would be Cam Ward.”
Parsons believed that Ward had a chance to be the first quarterback taken, which became a reality. Ward was selected ahead of Jaxson Dart, Tyler Shough, Jalen Milroe, Dillon Gabriel, and Shedeur Sanders.
Out of those quarterbacks, Ward is one of three that are likely to start this season. Ward is the undeniable No. 1 on the Titans, with the New Orleans Saints still deciding on Shough’s fate. Dart has a chance to start for the New York Giants, but it wouldn’t be until later in the season.
The Cowboys defenseman added, “He truly has that dog mentality. He can do it all, he’s reading coverages, he’s one of the ones. He’s one of the ones.”
While the Titans haven’t been listed as a team to land Parsons, Tennessee would love to make it a reality. They already have a top defense in the league, but the addition of Parsons could turn them into a playoff contender.
